What happens if my pirate-navigator is targeting a sub but then that sub is going to get out of my sonar range before mypirate reaches it? Will my pirate-nav continue to go after it and combat with it? Or will it stop and turn around?

My time machine shows that the pirate will continue and cause combat, but somehow I suspect the pirate will actually disengage and retreat once the target sub gets out of my sonar.

I assume the pirate will chase the sub.

The time machine often shows you the worst possible outcome, so you can't always predict events correctly. But two subs that are en route can't get new drillers or specialists, so there's not much that can happen. An Admiral speed boost for a specialist-less sub, that's it I guess.
