L1 to L2

I have a few games under my belt and I'm considering to purchase L2. However, I have a couple of questions. When you purchase L2, does your record get reset? If not, then does your rating (now as a L2 player) take into account the games that you played as an L1 player?

Only rated games affect your ranking. When you first purchase L2 your rank will be 1200. Then you can join ranted games which can affect your rank.

If you reach a high enough rank on your own do you unlock level 2 clearence without paying? If I don't have to pay I'd rather not, (because yes, I'm a cheapskate), but if that's the only way I'd be glad to.

Nope, I've been playing since opening week and I don't have L2. There is no way to get it without paying.
