How to counter admiral stackers?

Questions about rules, how things work, etc.

  • In one game I'm in right now, one guy is gifting another all his admirals, on top of the ones the guy already hired himself. He's currently got a speed factor of 3.5, and shows no signs of stopping.

Sentries can only squeeze off a few shots, if any, and other specialists have to touch their target to be effective.

How then do you counter the Admiral Storm?

  • That is the question of the ages, where the enemy can catch up to your smuggler, What can you do??

As with fighting Kings, i have found that Security Chiefs work on the defensive side of the equation. Sabo's only delay defeat. If you are on offense, i would try and assassin, DA, or hypnotize his Admirals.

  • If your enemy's drillers become to powerful (due to stacked kings and admirals), you can try to hire as many combat specialists as possible (multiple generals and a diplomat work especially well) to render the regular driller subs useless and force your opponent to use assassins, navigators, and elders counter your specialists.

If you can successfully shift the battle from a driller based fight to a specialist based fight, his global bonuses will be less overwhelming.

  • Honestly, their isn't too much you can do. Admirals have no clear counter, so most of the time you'll want to focus on countering the person's other aspects, such as the other globals they have.

I'd say HCJ is right in some regards. Since admirals speed up all subs, most of the time people will tend to send attacks more often with multiple subs as opposed to saving up for one big death sub, which they would do if they had a specialist like a helmsman. Generals and kings can do marvels at destroying multiple smaller attacks.

But you probably don't have the time to get all these promoted specs at this point in the game...

tl;dr - Stack kings. Stacking kings is always the answer.

  • Stacking admirals is a counter to kings by base trading though Kings can drill a hole through to try and corner the enemy specialist. At 3.5 speed though the enemy can move around their defense and offense faster than you could respond unless you had a smuggler and a navigator. Whenever a winner receive a donation of specialist unless you got a captured some specialist or have a team to fight it off it would be pretty difficult.

  • He's fast, ok. But how big is he ?
If you out-pop him, you might be slower but you'll overwhelm him at some point. Try and tycoon-foreman his face :)

No, at the time of posting i had 10 outposts to his 25. I needed the many tinkerers and a tycoon simply to approach his level of production, let alone destroy him in an offensive.

The game's over, I ended up convincing two other guys to raid his rear flank, and they brought their friends. Admiral stack might be strong, but it wasn't 5v1 strong. (also Guy #2 was also stacking admirals through the roof, but he wasn't fighting me, so I didn't care as much)

  • Fear not. There is no counter. And the Devs don't seem to care enough about the game to give it a proper balance update.

Not that I can't blame them, since it's not paying their bills.
