A pirate sub's speed is 2x to a target and 4x back home.

If the pirate sails with a smuggler and a helmsman does that sub travel at

2x3x2 = 12x to target and 4x3x2 = 24x home

OR

2+3+2 = 7x to target and 4+3+2 =9 home?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe if there are multiple specialists with a speed boost on a sub, the one with the greatest boost cancels out the others. So it would travel x2 speed to the sub because of the Helmsman/Pirate (same thing really) and x4 back because of the pirate.

Sheep is right. Whichever speed spec is the highest, works above all else.
