Specialists global effects during combat

Questions about rules, how things work, etc.

  • This is a question about the King and the General (I don't remember any other that would fit this scenario):
If an opponent has a General, for example, but he is outside my sonar range, do my combat previews against him reveal he has the General?

  • Yes. Global powers from specialists are taken into account even if they are not viewable. You know they exist because you got the notification.

  • I think you only get the notification if you see his queen at the moment he hires the specialist.

  • I'm positive you only get the notification of the hire or promotion if you have the queen or specialist being peomoted visible respectively. Or else I would have more than I have in my event log.

I guess the initial question remains then. Thx for your answers though.

  • Promotions are announced globally, standard hires only result in a notification if it's in your sonar range.

    I think.

    I think.

That is not the case I'm afraid. In my current game, I never got a notification that one of my opponents had promoted a Tinkerer to a Minister of Energy, but I know he has one based on the number of generators he has and his electrical output. Same with his Security Chief; I can see his outposts have extra shields but never got a notification of the promotion.
On the other hand, I never saw him hire the Tinkerer or the Inspector...

  • In my game I get notifications about promotions from players whose queen is not visible to me. Maybe it's just a bug with the notifications in general?

If you have vision of the specialist being promoted you get the notification, otherwise you don't. That does not depend on whether you have vision of the queen or not.

EDIT: This is wrong. As long as you have vision of the queen, you get notifications on all promotions, regardless of whether you have vision of the specialist being promoted or not.

  • I've gotten notifications for kings and generals that aren't visible. Maybe those are exceptions. All the other global effects there are visible clues that the promotion happened.

Although I guess the first king drops shields, that's a clue.

I think the subjects got mixed up along the way haha. At first, I was asking about combat previews and if they took into account global effects like the General or King even though those specialists weren't visible. The answer is yes, I was able to verify that in my own game after I posted this.

When other people started talking about "notifications", I assumed they were talking about the Event Log. So, whenever I was mentioning notifications, that's what I was referring to. So no, you don't get notifications in your event log if a specialist is promoted outside your vision. But yes, I agree that in the case of the King it is easily distinguishable because of the shields. As are many others like the Security Officer or the Minister of Energy for example. The General though, only through the combat preview can we know he is there if he is not visible.
