  • One game, I was the King Merchant. I made too many peace deals and couldn't attack anyone, so i went to public chat offering to buy unneeded specialists. The (purple) guy on my left attacked me without warning immediately after i sent away all my drillers to buy a general and a foreman, which was pretty uncomfortable. I out-strategized the guy on account of my Tactical Genius™, and went on to take first.

  • Someone actually did a research study on the old diplomacy boardgame(which shares some similarities with Subterfuge). People who are enthusiastic supporters of your plans from the get go are more likely to backstab right away.

I have to agree. One time, had early alliance with partner gushing enthusiasm with my plans. I left my border undefended with him and he nearly wiped me out. Bastard still died before me.

  • My greatest (worst?) story of backstab is during the time where me and a bunch of my in real life friends decided to all join a Subterfuge game together. That might have been a bad idea.

Whenever we eventually ending up backstabbing each other, we got really salty. And it started affecting how we treated each other in real life. We learned from our mistakes next time and did a anonymous game, but for a little while I thought that Subterfuge was going to destroy a bunch of friendships.
