I'm glad you asked Radio. These terms have varied meanings, and are often used interchangeably, however, their are several distinct and key differences. First, a statute is a rule that has been enacted by the legislature. So it is a clearly (well not really) defined rule that has a very obvious (again, not so much) way of determining when there has been a violation. Law usually refers to everything that can be used to convey what the rules are, whether that is rulings in previous cases or written rules (statutes). So in conclusion, a law can be interchanged for statute, but statute can't necessarily be interchanged for law because of the slight variance.
