Paid Tourney's- Standard Format?

    We have a quite a few options and i'm interested in what people think about implementing a standard for these new .99 cent tournaments and maybe official tournaments in general.
    Even if you don't participate in tournaments, your opinion is still valuable- feel free to voice your comments below.

    -First up- Profiles-
    Anonymous- Medals, Win Ratio, and Name are Hidden
    Identified- All is revealed.

    -Player Count-
    8
    10
    This effects how many players move on (the Top 5 would move on in a 10 person game and 4 in a 8) as well as how long the game takes. From my experience 10 people games take a bit longer, but more people get to move on to the finals.

    -Map Type-
    *Balanced- The ratio of generators to factories are equal
    *Random- The ratio is random- but often not within the Heavy options.

    -Rank's Role in Bracket Placement-
    *Rank priority placement- In usual brackets higher ranked players get separated- so that there are often a single high ranked player per bracket set. The highest ranked players would be put on opposite points in the bracket, so that they do not come in contact early.
    *Random- Placement may be impromptu or completely randomized.
    *NEW! Tournament Priority- This will be similar to Rank Priority, but rather than positioning based off rank, we position players based on their success of previous tournaments- new players will be considered at the lowest rank.

    Each of these options has its benefits and quirks- so please voice your opinion.

    I prefer identified. In my (admittedly limited) experience with anonymous games, the players are more ruthless and there is a much higher chance of being seriously and viciously backstabbed. In addition, I think they are also more toxic - rude, shit-talking, mocking, etc.
    Neither of these things makes the game more fun, especially for newer players.
    In an identified game, this sort of behavior can have consequences for future games. I think that's better.

    I like both, but I prefer eight players. Better chances for a 1st-2nd-3rd medal!

    Balanced is better, in almost all circumstances. Heavy generator games are really awful.

    Either of these is fine by me, though I voted for ranked priority. It makes sense to give an edge to those with better rankings; they've earned it.

  • I prefer identified players. If you do anonymous, then the creator would know everybody in the game.

    I like tournaments that are 8 people on a 10 person map. Then when all 8 join the admin starts the game. This way nobody knows who their neighbors will be, have time to chat, etc. It also stops the game's creator from creating and leaving games to get a favorable starting position.

    I like random maps. Some players are stronger when strategy needs to be developed on generator or factory heavy maps and it also adds weight to those specialists that otherwise may never be hired.

    I voted yes on this. However, I think this definition sucks. Depending on the amount of time in between tournaments, I think rank should/could be taken into account. But not the rank based of the leaderboards. A different kind of rank, based on the Mario kart principle, where one is given points for the position that they finish in games between one tournament and the next.

    That makes some sense to me- I'll ad this as an option. Placing well in a tournament should come with some perks-
    Could somebody link me a list of all tournament posts so I can get cracking on a tier list?
    However I would need a link to all tournaments

I wouldn't want people to have a noticeable advantage or disadvantage over someone because of their past history with other players, especially if you have to pay to enter the tournament. And I'm assuming the devs would have a better system of setting up a tournament game than using a participant as a host, so the issue with the host knowing who is in the game shouldn't be a problem as there won't be a host.

    You make some great points. In my tournament the games ended up being a mining race on day three becuase nobody wanted to attack Friends. Tournaments are to play subterfuge, not socialize. I completly agree with what you said about identities being revealed at the end, and if possible that should be thing in regular anon mode.

    That was the one thing I was annoyed about the first time I played anon. I was expecting to see people's names at the end of it. Instead, I was still just sky. If they would impliment that into the game, it would make it a lot cooler

    We would definitely look into it.
    Mayhaps the host sends us the game link and we send the game link to the selected random members?
    Another thing with anon is it defenitely take a little more time to set up with the invites and whatnot, but anon is a valuable mode for doing what you said- eliminate the bias that comes with history.
