so the point of this is for me to "shoot the gap" of greys to view (or smash through someone?) someone elses queen the soonest?

Yeah, that gets you bonus points. But you get points for winning like a normal tourney. The person would be on the other side of the map to you - this feature would be disabled in smaller games.
