Random events

Strategy, feedback, or anything SUBTERFUGE-related

  • I'm new around here. Love the game. It got me thinking. What about some random elements. Ie: a mine exploding, or a generator catching fire and being detstroyed or offline for x hours same for factories. There may not be a high chance of this happening, but having it happen now and again could make for interesting play. Also should there be a minor randomness to combat. Maybe 5% or so. So that sometimes the under dog may before better etc. also I like the idea of shields going down to an event..

    Just something to consider

  • This has been brought up before, but I believe that the developers wanted a game that did not rely on chance or luck (other than the luck and chance that comes from outpost placement and diplomacy). They even removed a specialist ( the illusionist- a specialist that could misrepresent what was at an outpost) because it left playing up to chance.

Aside from what the developers intended, I highly doubt the developers will implement any major changes. We are promised one more update, if that and it will probably be some quality of life changes- A few bug fixes and allowing android users to give medals.

Luck in this game (or what I call externally generated unpredictability): Outpost placement, Specialists hire choices, and diplomacy.

Are we really getting one more update?

I agree- But I believe those to be relatively manageable random events- You can plan around hires, for they allow you to see which hires are ahead of you and I believe there is enough variety and options to mitigate bad luck. Outpost placement- while I have had some bad luck- can also be planned around and can be mitigated by diplomacy, speccialist picks and driller movement

So because they are relatively manageable, these random occurrence may add some spice to the game.

A random event like an EMP going off and stunting your production growth or a fire in a generator can be pretty cruel.
If such an event were to be the cause of your loss, how rage inducing would that be.

Noel and Ron promised one last update and I'll hold em to thier word.

I'm not agreeing with random events, I don't think they will be all that great, but what I'm saying is that, if there is any luck in this game, it is one of those three factors. You can't predict them, but they are not because of human thought and strategy, but rather the computer randomly generating such things
