enhancement: more neptunium to go

Strategy, feedback, or anything SUBTERFUGE-related

  • Hi,

higher ranked games seem to finish quite early. I got the impression fighting does not really pay off, if you can just have 10-11 outposts, then start mining and go for 3 mines and win this way. My proposal is to optionally increase how much neptunium is required to win the game. At the end it will be faster anyway, so maybe 250 or 300 could be better in order to just have a little bit more time - so people a little later with mining can succeed if they just end up with higher neptunium production.

I am writting this, because I am always too late ;-)

Then if the only person with a benefit on this change is you, then maybe you should change your style of play instead of requesting another update, plus the devs are gone.

  • Discard Juanmas friendliness and I agree that that would be nice. He was somewhat right though. You might need to improve if that is your problem.

  • Sadly the devs are no longer making new content for subterfuge. I do like the idea of costomizing the win conditions for each game. If you would like to play in a game with special rules you can either join a ESG game or host one yourself.

    Godspeed in your travels.

  • I think the game is balanced in a way towards finishing by certain time. Higher nep means longer games or more mines/outpost to speed up win but also increase risk of losing mines and with higher cap 20% nep lost is also stronger. One of the barriers to new players is the speed and pace the length of the game takes. I don't really think it would matter to most players if a game takes a few days longer. Just some random regarding higher nep.

  • My point is that the game finishes too fast. If you are in a game where all players are quite capable it is not that easy to win a fight and it does not pay of. This means passive playing style seems to have more advantages. Being able to customize this setting is probably not much effort and does not change the standard game.

Currently you do not need to capture an enemy mine - building 3 mines is enough. Sometimes you do not even need to fight anyone, if you take one or two outposts after someone left the game or taking advantage of someone being almost defeated.

I am already adapting my playing style, but I got the feeling that some of those 1400+ games are just quite boring. If I play with lower profile players this is not a problem, because often enemies can be defeated more easily.

By the way - the game was just updated.

  • That is why I prefer Domination :P
You see, in domination You actually have to FIGHT to win. You can't just be at peace with everyone and you definitely can't just build mines and wait. The only problem, as many people have pointed out, is the stacking of a LOT of specialists, like king-stacking, or sentry+princess stacking. Just name your game "NO SPEC STACKING" and define it in the general chat before the game starts :)
They'll be great games you play (IF people follow the rules  )

But Yes, I entirely agree with being able to change the Np Goal of 200.

Also, there should be some more win-conditions which would be awesome, but probably will never be implemented:
    1. Elimination
    2. First to own X number of mines.
    3. Most Np after certain number of days
    4. Most Outposts after certain number of days.
    5. First to reach X drillers at an outpost (a particularly interesting mode, as it means turtles will have a decent chance of winning as well)
    6. First player to be able to see the whole map (princesses and intel-officers are restricted in some way)
    7. First player to have at least X more Np than everyone else
    8. Most players eliminated wins
    Kings aren't OP
