keithzg revived this old thread, not me.

My comment was a general comment; not a specific reference to our recent game. Clearly you're still hung up on that. Dude, please, you gotta let it go.

Ratings are only imaginary numbers. People/Relationships are what make this game and it's community great.

  • Err, should I just start a new thread then? Considering this thread seems to be the original source of the full formula I figured here would be the place to ask . . .

To reiterate, I'm frankly baffled by the ratings system since, as I've mentioned, the wiki gives a formula (of which a post in this thread seems to be the first instance out there of the formula being mj00's comment here) and an example match that I'm fairly certain I understand, and have gotten worked out in a spreadsheet just fine since it matches the example match scores. But it doesn't work at all for my current match, so I figure either:

    (a) I somehow got the formula wrong in a way that makes it work for the example only (which seems vanishingly unlikely, but still possible)
    (b) The scores are calculated differently now than they were when mj00 originally worked out the full formula and posted it here in this thread
    (c) The scores are calculated differently in the game I'm in because of some difference (10 players? resignations?) that changes the way things are calculated versus the game that the formula was worked out for

EDIT: Turns out it was a combination of one player's rank changing (I swear I copied it down right, so I'm going to just assume it changed sometime after I copied it down, which was as the game lobby was filling up), and a mistake I made with the 9th and 10th rows which explains why my spreadsheet worked fine for the example 8-player game. Mea culpa!
