Specialist Idea - Jester

Strategy, feedback, or anything SUBTERFUGE-related

  • If your opponent has a King, you can target a sub and all drillers on board (and jester) will be destroyed (travels at x2). not sure if it should kill any specialists on board (probably OP) or return them to original base..

while at a base, the jester will nullify the kings advantage of destroying drillers before combat begins.

Sort of a cross between and DA and pirate, but can only be used against a player with a king.

    ---

Damn. If only this game would be supported by the devs and specialists could be added or removed for for a period/permenantly to keep the meta fresh.

  • In game design I never really like things that are made to be a counter to one specific card. To the player who has a king this is just annoying. To the player with the jester, his opponent might not use a king making the jester useless. That is generally not good game design. With this being said specialist that can passively nullify a specialist without having to specially state I is a good thing. In fact I have thrown out a few ideas myself that passively counter the king. I will have to find that old thread with all of the suggested specialists on it.

  • I agree with Chariot here. A lot of the specialists are designed to be multi purpose- Aggressive Specialists can be used defensively (sending a thief at an oncoming death sub) and Defensive Specialists can be used offensively (taking a inspector to the front line to soak up enemy drillers or putting a martyr/da on a pirate)

Even if a one of the current specialist has a single purpose ( the infiltrator is only good at attacking- can't be used for anything else) the purpose is a common instance in the game- Your always going to be breaking shields in every game.

A specialist that just counters a single specialist specifically seems too much like rock paper scissors or something.

But if your interested in King counter Fictional Specialist I did draw up the design for the Chancellor- I can send a link.

  • Points taken. Maybe it can only intercept an incoming sub and defeat all drillers (and specialists return at x2 so they aren't an easy steal), unless the opponent has a king, in which case it can target subs, and will nullify Kings effect at an outpost where it is present.

My thinking behind it was to give a hire option that in particular circumstances would counter an attack (but not all attacks) by someone with king(s), but wouldn't involve nerfing the king itself.

Yeah I'm interested in what the Chancellor idea was...

  • The Chancellor was much like the Reverend Elder- in a small radius around him- maybe a little bigger than a martyr but smaller than a sentry, He would nullify all enemy Global effects- Enemy Engineers would no longer rapair while in the radius- king's would not work- Subs affected by the admiral speed buff would slow down and so forth.

This is a *wonderful* idea. I want the Chancellor.

  • The only problem I have with the chancellor is that if someone stacked princesses and sentries, and then just got a chancellor, global specs would just, not work anymore.....
But if you just let the range be constant, it's a bit too useless as well....

  • The chancellor's range is set.
