Temporary Upgrade for Beta Players

Strategy, feedback, or anything SUBTERFUGE-related

  • Any chance of getting temporary upgrade to paid for beta players or forum users or something for the first month or so? Might be a nice buffer to allow players to rally additional newbies during launch and also allow for a little more bugfixing time. I know there are builds daily, but thought it would be worth suggesting as a means to get some early games up and running.

  • I understand where you're coming from, and I've seen at least one other post about rewards for testers, so I assume a few more people are thinking (hoping) the same. But I also think it's about time for the devs to start getting paid for their effort.

If we want to keep playing multiple games, schedule lots of orders, etc., it's nice to camouflage it as 'rallying additional newbies in the first month' but then what in month two? We'll still want to be able to play maybe 2 games at the same time, and schedule more than 4 orders for during the night or during the working day.

I think a certain amount of the people who are interested in a game like Subterfuge have already found it and are currently testing it, so the devs would waste certain income by not letting us pay. (I know you're only talking about a reward for the first month so this point doesn't apply to your post.)

I'm really glad the devs chose not to go with consumable IAP's in this game. So while $10 is above mobile standards, I spent a lot more time on this game in one week of testing, than on the movie I saw in the cinema last saturday, which also cost me $10. Additionaly, the boardgame Diplomacy costs €30 and then you have to find 7 friend who can also take a day off and then you also have to move all the pieces on the board yourself.

The game's worth it, we got to play for free and have lots of fun in exchange for testing. I'll gladly upgrade the day it comes out. I think the devs deserve better than giving us deals/discounts/etc. but hey, it doesn't hurt to ask, you can always try. :)

  • I agree completely. I'm hoping the game is supported and expanded with new features/specialists/etc. well past launch. The core audience people are the ones that need to buy the game for that to happen.

No consumables in a strategy game I enjoy, I'll pay for all day long. The last game I got into that was freemium was outwitters. Not enough players spent money, the developers had to move on to other games. It's a bummer. http://www.wired.com/2012/10/outwitters-sales-disaster/.

  • All fair, positive points. With one game under my belt, I still feel a little timid about dropping the cash. It's good to hear more experienced players disagreeing! Here's to some more gaming, bug stomping, and a growing community.
