Pirate Targeting is awful

  • Trying to target a smuggler heading between 2 outposts on a mostly north-south route, about 8h38m total travel time. Have an outpost with a smuggler and pirate east of the path of travel (almost perpendicular to the midpoint of the path). At normal speed it would take me 16h53m to get to the destination, or roughly 8h27m at double speed. Seeing this, I figured that I could have my pirate target the smuggler while it is traveling.

I am having 2 issues with this.

With the smuggler and pirate idle on my outpost, the default move speed being used when not targeting an outpost is the smuggler speed, which means I have to plan a move with my smuggler somewhere else to even attempt to intercept the enemy smuggler.

Whenever I try to target the enemy smuggler near it's destination, my target snaps to the destination outpost. Mathematically I should I be able to target the smuggler, but it is functionally impossible.

My suggestion would be to add a new targeting mode for pirates where you click on the target sub you want to intercept, with appropriate checks to make sure you can intercept them in time.

  • That would be a good potential solution, I'll pass it on.

The current work around might be to launch the Smuggler, tick forward 10 mins and launch the Pirate, then tick back and cancel the Smuggler. Maybe not the best solution, but it should work.

That's what I ended up trying, but ran into the other problem. Thanks for passing the suggestion along!

  • In other words, it does get quite complicated when planning attacks with multiple speeds at an outpost.

    For example:
Outpost A has Smugger, Admiral, Queen and drillers. Move to friendly outpost B. The time that I believe that is displayed is Smuggler 3x and Admiral 2x but if you want to send drillers only, then it should show Admiral passive 1.5x. If you want to send the Queen, is should show standard 1x speed.

I can see the difficulty in displaying this correctly. The above suggestion may be good for Pirates but the above scenario still isn't solved for general calculation purposes.

  • Ok, so what if they revamped the specialist movement? What if you selected the specialist you wanted to move before dragging the direction?
And if you wanted multiple specialists in the sub, then you could have a selection system.
    Thoughts?

    That would work fine.

There would also need to be improvements to the selection system itself. I panicked once because I was checking travel times with a Lieutenant a couple minutes after a different sub had launched to the same outpost, clicked off, and then couldn't select the launching sub. Took me about 4 minutes of zooming in as far as i could, and tapping my screen where the sub was moving back and forth to select it and cancel.

It would be nice if when tapping on a portion of the screen, and there are multiple objects (subs/outposts) within x radius of the tap, a menu or selection dial or something would appear to let you select the correct object.

  • Pirate targeting is awful.

Spent 5 minutes last night trying to target a sub 'hidden' by another sub as they were lunched 10 minutes apart. Eventually got it, but it took awhile.

  • I have found that a way that often works is to track the Pirate in behind the sub you are going for and drag it toward the target, following the targets path.

I guess I was kinda vague. By "hidden" sub, I meant the enemy sent 2 subs 10 minutes apart. Could target the second sub easily, but the first one was near impossible.
