Quick question - spying w subs

Strategy, feedback, or anything SUBTERFUGE-related

  • So I'm at a critical juncture in a game where an opponent is going to win via neptunium unless my heavily laden sub armed with navigator, infiltrator, helmsman can take over his mine.

I have the sub actually aiming for a different spot but it will pass close by the mine. I was kind of assuming the sub can see a little bit around it, like a base's defenses, but now I'm not so sure...... The original plan was to get close and swoop in if my force can overcome the defenses.

What can subs see in enemy territory?

I guess the point is moot because either the sub successfully wins the fight and we get some time, or it doesn't and we lose. I'm still curious what to expect.

  • Only outposts have sonar. Subs cannot gain vision unless they take over an outpost.

I believe the only way a sub can gain any type of information outside of vision is if they are attacked (by say an enemy sub with a Pirate on it). Then you will learn whether or not you won that fight.

  • The sub won't clear any fog of war around it.

Perhaps another player can see the mine and give you the information needed if you ask?

  • No the mine is well positioned in enemy territory so that no one can see it. It doesn't matter anyway, either I'm strong enough or I'm not. I'll let you guys know in a few hours! I do have 3 generals and will promote a king before the sub lands, so that's a ton of firepower....

Well if that's the case you know a couple of things:

    1) You kill 30 drillers

    2) You kill 20 shield

    3) You have a 30% attack increase

    4) You know his driller count.

    5) You can extrapolate possible driller count at mine based on combined driller count minus known total driller count.

    6) If number 5 is not over 30% of your attack force you have a very high chance to win.

    7) 6 Assumes he can't see your hypnotist.
