I wish I could but unfortunately the next promotion will come too late so I had to move my Queen. You guys said very interesting stuff though! I didn't know the Sentry fires at the sub with the most drillers

Correct, following the description of the Sentry:
Target is chosen to maximize damage.

  • I am familiar with and have even used this technique before. It is very good in a few situations and very very bad in a lot of other situations.

As has been pointed out, this is either relatively or completely countered by generals, war heroes, lieutenants, Kings, inspectors, etc.

It is effective against double agents, saboteurs, and somewhat against martyrs though extra spacing may be required, which creates other problems such as shields recharging or, if the target is a factory, more drills being created.

There's no nerfing that needs to take place. It's just a strategy with its ups and downs.

The final result is definitely impacted with this this strategy. The opponent is decreasing the amount of damage done by the sentry, no question, as a higher percentage of drills would be destroyed if they were all on one sub.

I believe the opponent clumped his remaining drills in the final sub so as to ensure that it reached the queen before he next hire was available. Otherwise he would have continued to string them out.

Exactly. I see the war hero as more of a defensive specialist—this is a perfect example.

  • If you had enough time, destroying the single unit subs by sending a sub of 10 would allow your sentry to immediately start firing on the high driller count subs when they come into range rather than having a 2 hour period where the sentry is not firing, allowing the sentry an extra shot on the subs with more drillers

So I am in this situation.
My opponent found a way to counter my Sentry by sending his subs 1 by 1 at the same time, with the big subs at the end...maybe a too easy way? Do you think this technique should be nerfed (for instance by giving splash damage to the sentry), or you think it's legit?
In my opinion it's definitely a clever move, but in the end people will just start sending subs like this without thinking much, whenever there is a Sentry, as it has no real drawback

So upgrade you sentry to a war hero....

Sentry rounds up so the most you can send and only lose 1 driller is 20 drillers...
which happens to be the amount the war hero kills.

    Good luck.
