Should every specialist have a promotion?

Strategy, feedback, or anything SUBTERFUGE-related

  • This is not to suggest ideas for specialist promotions, but to ask the question if it would better the game if every specialist had a promotion. Personally, I like promotable units. It allows your specialist to be more than a one trick pony. For example, you can use a Smuggler to quickly move drills to the front lines and then you change it to a Tycoon in order to boost your drill production. I think many of the non-promotable specialist would be picked more if they were able to change up their use with a promotion.

  • I am not sure I like this idea. Sure it would be interesting but I bet it would get highly annoying. If you had a specialist your queen could hire but you needed to promote a specialist it would be a very tough choice to either upgrade or start. Also think of how many new specialists that would introduce. How many new janky mechanics would the devs have to come up with in order to do this. Plus I like the simplicity of just hireing a specialist and it can stay that way the rest of the game. Keep in mind though that these are just my first reaction thoughs so they may be wrong.

  • However, I think if there was some sort of logistic data gathering, the devs could consider adding promotions to specialists which get chosen the least.
But some specialists are fine without a promotion, like the intel officer, princess, or Thief.

I agree. Sometimes making the decision between hiring a niche specialist (like an Infiltrator or a Double Agent) and hiring a general purpose specialist (like the Tycoon line or Engineer line) is important. Adding promotions to everything takes away from the weight descision making.

The unpromotables seem to be immediately good at what little thing they do in unique situations- Thief is great against big numbers but not much else or a Reverend Elder may only serve you well if they have a ton of specialists.
While generally promotables are more loose at what they can be used for and sometimes flat out weak until they are promoted.

I like this balance in the game.

  • Nope, sorry dude, but that's what makes each specialist unique. Like has been already pointed out many specialists are niche specialists; promoting them just doesn't make sense. Plus adding that many more specialists could mean you never see some specialists pop up in game. I like it that I usually get a chance at every specialist I want at some point in the game, adding promotions for each one would just take away options I feel and you'd only be able to pick certain specialists because if you just hired new ones the old ones wouldnt ever be promoted.

And that He died for me.

  • If they do end up making a ton of specialists (doubtful but hopeful) How cool would it be to have game modes with only select specialists?

  • I will say, the infiltrator needs an upgrade. Right now, it's strictly an early-game specialist, and thus not worth hiring 9 times out of 10

you just underrated infiltrator. it just for agresive playstyle. if you defensive play style he would do not much use. infiltrator power equal to war hero with 1 hire when attack. but it limit on shield not driller. and if you have 2 infiltrator you can split push. but for warhero you cant. it depend on situation. if your playstyle def, choose sentry and promote to war hero to change playstyle. for infiltrator choose if you agresive from begining. add any upgrade will make infiltrator too OP than 2 hire warhero.
