Specialist idea: spy

Strategy, feedback, or anything SUBTERFUGE-related

  • I have seen lots of spy suggestions for a specialist but none of them really satisfied me. They all seemed gimmicky or overpowered. Here is my stab at a spy specialist.

    Spy

Global: increases the radar rang of all outposts with specialists by 20%. Local: one of your opponents specialists within a spy's outpost sonar range will have a 100% chance of being in your queens next available hire (he replaces one if the specialists in the hire screen). He triggers his ability every 14 hours.

I thought this was a realy interesting and thematic idea. He can let you get certain specialists you really need at the moment. If your opponent had a sub heading tears your outpost but he also had a sabatour on his border you could move in your spy and if there are no other specialists have a 100% chance of having a sabatour in your next hire. If there are multiple specialists your odds of getting the one you want go down. Your thoughts?

  • Wow! I like this little idea alot! However I do have one problem. Would this mean if you had a spy at the edge of your territory and the only enemy specialist in range was, say a second tier specialist like an engineer, or a King for that matter- that second tier specialist would be in your next hire pool?

Again I do like the idea alot
    EDIT: Wording fix= hurdur hur

  • I like it. Would add an aspect to game that could be interesting.

  • Interesting aspects to this. Perhaps, if I may, suggest that this specialist act like a real spy in that they can be turned against the user. Trying to mimic the actual double agency of spies in warfare I would propose the local as follows:

Has a 50% of replacing the specialist hired by an opponent within the spy's outpost's sonar range.

If I hire the spy, I gain the advantage of your suggested global ability and could use it against a neighbouring player where their next hire (perhaps first tier only, no promotions) would be replaced with my spy instead. I loose the spy all together but sabotage the next hire.

The possibility of having it used against me in the future also becomes a reality and one could maneuver to actually lure the opponent's spy.

Destroying it is inferior to this.

Yeah I love this idea! So that a spy could be used against you in the future.
Adds the whole new 'luring' tactic into the mix

How is the "at least one" calculated? If there are 6 specialists in your range, is the % chance that each of them gets chosen equal?
And if so, couldn't it be abused by putting a Spy on a sub with a Navigator and just leaving and returning to have the chances reset, until you get your preferred option?

Hmm. I didn't notice the "at least". Thanks for pointing that out for me. I am definitely fixing that. I only meant for 1 specialist to be chosen. As for the resetting the choice I am not sure how that would work. I should probably add a timer onto his ability.
