So one of the things anonymity was supposed to do was even the playing field competitively. But does it make certain types of multi-game dealers even more devastating to game balance?
I was hoping against hope that anonymity mode would have also included some kind of anonymous system for joining the game in the first place (like basic matchmaking). Instead we join named servers like with other modes.
People who've played with each other in the past and like playing with each other if they happen to see them in an upcoming game. I'll call them "soft multigamers". Soft arnt usually trying to break the game, but they would usually acknowledge that doing this is somewhat unfair to players who joined without knowing anyone.
People who deliberately set out in premade teams, utilizing the friend invite system as a tool to achieve this, I call them "hard multigamers".
Now, both are a problem if a lone player is seeking a fair experience. However, playing against soft is not quite the same experience as playing against hard. Softs sometimes carry baggage from previous games that can lead to cracks in their diplomacy. Hards do not crack, and they have 100% in knowing they will not crack. If they were going to crack, they probably wouldn't have put so much effort into pre-rigging their alliance.
I'm concerned that anonymous has eliminated only the lesser of two evils.
Maybe that sounds good. One evil down, one to go? My initial thought, (without having seen evidence yet) is that the elimination of the lesser evil will allow the greater to flourish. This is because as players start games, a true ffa takes much longer to develop reliable diplomacy, while hard and soft get theirs very quickly. Hard esp.
If a hard joins a regular ranked game, there's a very good chance there's at least 1 other soft in the same game, especially at high rank where the pool of players is smaller. These two probably usually end up fighting each other, if not right away, then right after the first big gank is eliminated. By having 2 world powers, this gives a chance to the soloers to join one side or the other.
Remove the soft, and you are left with one world power dominating the game. And this power is only magnified by the distrust anonymity creates between the soloers.
The update is just released, but I'm curious if people agree or if this is just something I imagined up.
