  • I took a stab at writing a story for this. Enjoy!

In her bag, she carried only the items necessary to complete her mission. One day's worth of rations, a handgun, her orders, and a tear-stained photograph.
The rations were only enough for one trip, and the handgun was not meant for combat.
She wore tattered boots that had seen one too many days. They might have been finely crafted and expensive at one point, but over the years, they had faded and torn.
As she walked down the docks, men, women, and children have her a wide berth, making symbols of respect as they passed. They knew. Everyone knew.
The grand Olive Empire was not what it once had been. Invaders grew more daring with each passing day. Festering grudges led to destructive and relentless war. There was nothing to be done, except...
She had volunteered. Nobody had been surprised.
A beast rose before her. Shiny and metallic, with streamlined edges, and a single purpose. The mouth was opened wide, waiting to devour her, the sacrificial lamb. As she stepped up to the mouth, she gazed into the blackness. Then, she took one last glance behind her. All was still. The normally bustling industrial center was silent. No laughter, no shouts, and no tears. Workmen paused, forgetting the heavy loads they carried. Children stared, eyes uncomprehending. All regarded her with the silence of the grave.
With a deep breath, she turned and entered the darkness. Behind her, the light was blocked out, and a faint hiss confirmed an airtight seal. Lights flickered on, and the ship hummed with life. Ironic, she thought.
As she turned, she caught her reflection in the glass viewport. The sight was not pleasant. Once, she had been beautiful, energetic, and full of life. Those days were long gone.
She set her bag on the control panel and began to unload. Her handgun, she set on her chair. The rations, she placed in a nearby box. The photograph, she removed carefully and set on the radar, illuminated from below by the soft green light.
It showed a young man in military garb. Handsome and confident, he gazed into the camera with the eyes of a warrior. The image was distorted, however, by water damage, some of the spots fresher than others.
She was going to see that man. Her carriage was ready, she wore her best gown, and her ticket lay on her seat.

Very well written. Subterfuge really does leave a lot to imagination!
I'm feeling like the woman is either the martyr or assassin, although the handgun confuses me as neither specialists uses one.

  • I was inspired and doodled these two driller type things today. I'm not really content with the concept yet. the foreman there is grumpy because her superiors keep producing these machines with ridiculous design choices. Half of her time is spent doing quality control on their self stabilizing ballast systems- why put the things on two legs when they spend most of their time half underwater in holes?

  • Thanks! I've been drawing for about 22+ years- pretty much ever since I could hold a pencil. I'm not a professional by any means but I've got lots of practice under my belt. I've been drawing alliance banners for my allies in games too- I think it might help keep the alliances tighter but I don't have any evidence to back that up.
