I think it started as friends and ended with extortion.

Nonsense. Everyone knows that you don't find someone unless they're your best friend.

  • Quick recap of the last few days:

    • After making a lot of noise during the first few days with the fisherman strategy, I cooled it down after I started to mine. Doing my best to stay right under first place, so my name was never projected to win.
    • At one point, 6Pay decided he wanted to attack me. He spent a few days moving his troops into position, only to turn away when I brought my Nav/Pirate/Martyr sub into view. 8-)
    • I had a few more days of peaceful mining while Road and Yotta seemed to dominate the rest of the map outside of my vision.

    Then, there was yesterday:

    • 6Pay, JD, and Road all started moving troops in my general location. Specifically 6Pay.
    • I'm not sure what JD and Road where thinking, but I had my hands full with defense from being closed in on from all sides.
    • JD and Road either both missed their timeline in an attack, or were deterred from attacking due to my defenses/specialists hires. Because they quit attacking. Or sent a small force that would arrive at one of my 4 mines after the game is predicted to be over.
    • 6Pay however, has a massive force moving in on me. A bunch of specialists and roughly 325 Drillers. Compared to my roughly 60 Drillers.
    • Thankfully, I had a Security Chief so my shield were strong. I also had a Martyr/Pirate, A bunch of Assassins, and a Martyr scheduled for hire.

    Then last night:

    • I had to wake up a number of times in order to keep my position/not be eliminated.
    • The first time I woke up, nothing exciting was happening. Excellent. I went back to sleep.
    • The second time I woke up, It seems I made an error with predicting a move and my Pirate/Martyr sub is now headed towards 6Pay's outpost. 6Pay has sent one driller to blow my sub up. I'm now stuck trying to figure out what to do as the pirate/Martyr were crucial to my defense.
    • 6Pay has also promoted a Navigator and has sent his new Admiral, and all 61 troops currently at his base, towards one of my mines. He's projected to win, but just barely.
    • Thankfully, I have a lieutenant near by who can arrive before 6Pay does. And if I promote him, I will keep the mine.
    • 6Pay didn't consider this as he believed I was going to hire a Martyr with my next specialist. Which is what I was planning on doing, as I didn't think 6Pay was going to attack the mine that he did.
    • At this point, It's only possible for me to lose 1 out of my 4 mines. In doing so, Me and JD would have swapped Second and Third place.
    • So after defecting the majority of 6Pay's attacks, I kindly ask him if he's willing to gift me the attacks he has sent towards me. Since it wouldn't help him anyways.
    • He is. As he's frustrated with the lack of help he received in taking me out all throughout the game.
    • So 6Pay gifts me all the subs headed towards my way.
    • I get a martyr and blow up a sub of Road's 96+thief sub on the way to my queen incase Yotta delays the game further,
    • And it looks like this game will be over in about 9 hours (as far as I can see) with Yotta taking first, Me in second, and JD in third.

  • Drats, foiled into taking a place behind you once again!
Good work taking second place there :D

  • I'm really sorry to hear that I disturbed your sleep!

I was prepared to attempt some kind of dance with your martyr/pirate/nav and my pirate/nav. But then the error :/

The martyr hire was a real dilemma for me. I needed to capture a mine, not get it blown up, as I don't think that depletes your neptunium.

I noted that you could not hire the martyr and then get it to that mine in time. I failed to consider the alternate possibility of you getting the lieutenant there before the hire was available and then promoting. I guess this is what we both get for playing Subterfuge too late at night!

You didn't really disturb my sleep. It was more of a "Man, I really want to beat JD in rankings, and it's going to cost me waking up a few times tonight in order to do that".

I consider it all a part of the game. And overnight attacks are part of the reason I love this game so much. This is the first time I've had to wake up in the middle of the night to make a move in the last 2-3 months. So I can't complain.

Hiring another martyr was absolutely my plan to begin with. And if I had schedule orders so I could sleep through the night, it would have been my hire. Because like you said, you needed to capture a mine and not blow it up.

But there simply wasn't a way for me to know exactly what you were going to do. So keeping a ranking in 2nd/3rd required the few interruptions in my sleep.

The error with sending the pirate/martyr sub to its doom was absolutely devastating to watch when I woke up the second time in the middle of the night. I was 90% confident that with that combo, I would be able to hold you off at least until Yotta won. And after wasting it, I wasn't sure I would be able to hold you off. I figured the best I could do was come in third after losing one mine. But then you kindly gifted me your subs. <3
