  • Is doing random social experiments/putting handicaps on yourself in Subterfuge matches going to become a thing, because it totally should. Your match hasn't even ended and I am already looking forward to the next idea.

Wow thanks! I did not expect such warm responses from everyone. I've enjoyed it so far and starting to even lose a little interest with my real games to favor this gimmick one!

  • I actually created a game called no specialists. So far everyone seems to be following the rules, but the game is a lot different. I've barely attacked anyone, and 3 people resigned. But I think handicapping is definitely the new thing for subterfuge!

  • I've done this before to. I guess it is the natural progression. Without really mentioning it to anyone else in the random anonymous match I joined, I decided to only hire and promote attack specialist. (As categorized by the game when it decides your specialist hire). I was able to make it out with a bronze medal.

I tried another game using only defensive specialist, but I broke it because I had three sentries and a princess was available (princesses are classified under an other specialist) and I bought it because it would determine if I medaled in the game. Still a little disappointed in myself, but that princess was invaluable. Because I already had a princess I broke it again to get a pirate to maximize my saboteur effectiveness. I successfully got second place even though I went almost completely passive, only attacking two bases. One was to gain my base back and the other one was at the beginning of the game when I couldn't see that someone else had launched a sub at the same base I was heading.

I was so close to it, too.
My original plan said nothing about not attacking anyone, but it became a secondary condition I put on myself after a little while. It worked pretty well. I focused on mines but due to my low base count Orange was always at the top of the screen stated to win in so many days. This helped me greatly to keep a low profile. I was able to fund most people around me in order to keep peace, but once Orange was eliminated and my name was at the top of the screen, even the people I had funded came to attack me. I got pushed down to second because Pink grabbed Oranges mines and bases rocketing him to first.

If I did it again my suggestions would be this:
Make more meaningful alliances with the people around me as opposed to hoping funding could solve all my problems. Deeper relations would probably stop them from attacking and would make them more willing to come to your aid if you are attacked.
Also, I would try to bargain for more bases. Since I added pacifism later on I forgot about bargaining for bases and only had the bases I grabbed from the very beginning of the game.

  • I hate to say I told you so

But I told you so :)

If I asked a neighbor if we could be peaceful and he didn't respond, I would consider it an act of war

Yeah you gifted drills but it's just too easy to garner support from other players and take you down
