And my final thought: WHY DOES EVERYONE HATE DOMINATION??? Can someone please explain to me what is so wrong with it?!?!?[/quote]

I'd have thought the last forum regulars game would have been proof. ;)

Not to turn this into a defacto "problems with domination mode" thread...

The problem is that the same players who supposedly like a longer game, do not like the side effects that come with a longer game that maybe they didnt even realize was because the game is longer.

A long game makes specialists seem imbalanced. It leads to stalemates in which its almost impossible for anyone to win, or if it were, and would be grueling and tedious.

Theres also some non-timing problems, but they wouldnt be as much of a problem if there a more realistic end goal. Turtling becomes a serious problem if you have to siege up like 4 people at the same time, there just arnt enough drills to maintain it. Also the idea that basically all alliances must cannibalize eventually is a little ridiculous, and basically turns the entire game into ganking 1 or 2 people at a time, in order of favorite to least favorite (your ability to fight is of minimal importance if 4 people decide its your turn to die).

Anyway, my vote is not to change Domination, but I do think it is broken, and it worries me that a new player might only ever have played domination and didnt get a true representation of the game.

If you like it, thats fine. But stop making threads to change the game as a whole when really the problem is Domination mode, not the mechanic that looks broken in a 4 week game of domination. (<thats not targeted at anyone in specific, just to everyone)

  • QUICK GAMES!!!!! That is, in my opinion, the 1 biggest, most important reason Subterfuge never caught on with the general public.

Other things I wold include (but aparently can't) are timed modes, so say, the person with the most Np or outposts after 10 days.
Ability to fund a player in domination if you satisfy 2 conditions: at least 50% more outposts than them AND 5 more outposts than them. (just to make sure a player with 2 outposts can't fund a player with 1)

  • I'd personally like to see:
    1. Interface optimization. (Search for an outpost maybe?)
    2. Anonymous mode reveal at end game. Especially in rated games, I like to know who I beat or lost to. Perhaps you could have the option to allow people to see your profile or not.
    3. Domination balancing. I like what tw said about being able to fund in domination. If that isn't implemented, would it be hard to remove the column, because it looks a little odd. Also, from personal experience, domination is less gruelling and more enjoyable when played in teams of three. I just finished a game like this and it only took 9 days.

  • 1. Spanish version. i can translate)

    2. Double speed game.. the exactly same game, but subs travel twice as fast, factories produce twice as fast, hires are twice as frequent, and so on.

Do it! Someone translated the rules into German and has been stickied to the top of the forum. I'm sure if you translate, yours would get the same treatment.

    No you wouldn't want this.
Usually, during the time you sleep, about 6-8 hours of Subterfuge passes without you doing anything.
In a 2x speed mode, about 12-16 hours of 'normal' Subterfuge passes without you doing anything.
Basically, whoever sleeps first has a massive disadvantage.....
The current game speed is almost at the fastest time it can be without nights getting too crazily long. We've talked about slowing the game speed, but if you want it to be faster, it'll have to be done within a day.

  • Thank you Kevlar for starting this thread. Here are my three:

    1. Fix bugs andor illogical mechanics (like launch window exploits)

    2. Fix domination mode (choice to reduce the # of outposts to be taken, game ends if majority/all players vote for it, introducing funding is also an excellent idea)

    3. Fix the ranking/ELO system. In short, I am in the view that the ELO system (developped for a deterministic 2-player game) is not adequate for Subterfuge. As higher ranked players have potentially much to lose from playing with low ranked players (and vice-versa), the ELO system affects the way you are playing. For me, the ranking system should not influence the way you play but give a fair measure of how good you are at the game.

  • join public games based on type not actual game name, so its random which will make the boot button work better and keep the game fair from multiboxing

Nerf king/engineer i'd like to crunch the game data to see how many players choose this approach and see if there is a way to combat the king with needing more kings

A speed setting when creating game, allow subs/games to move faster up to 6x or 8x
