Overnight pause suggestion

Strategy, feedback, or anything SUBTERFUGE-related

  • I have had one situation where an invasion of my factory was going to happen in the middle of my night. The attack was such that I was certain the aggressor was going to lunch a second strike on one of three other factories/generators very close by as soon as he had won the battle. I would have liked to be there to decide my counter strike as effectively as possible but I wasn’t prepared to get up in the middle of the night.

The game pace is perfect as it is. Pausing the game through the night sounds like an awful idea.

I do remember a moment a few months ago where I knew that my Queen was in danger at about 4am so I set an alarm. As the alarm went off my partner was not too impressed and I followed it up with a "clearly I set my alarm for the wrong time, sorry". I then proceeded to leave the room to 'go to the toilet' and quickly checked the game.

    That's the point I realised I had a problem :P

  • Personally I think the game pause is an awful idea. It takes excitement out of the game and makes thing predictable. I work long and varied shifts and I'm around at different times each day.

If it's that much of an issue then I'd suggest finding people that are in the same time zone as you and have strict bed times. ;)
Well let's be honest, I don't know what I'm talking about.

  • Some players REALLY want it and others don't. Why not make it an option then?

There is a lot of truth that we don't want our lives dictated by this game. I do surgery for a living and cannot afford the lack of sleep to wake up in the middle of the night (nor do I care to).

I like the game how it's real time but realistically that very fact may be the reason I stop playing. It would be frustrating to lose games due to my inability to check in during the night.

It hasn't happened yet, but I do see it as a problem.

You could always slow the game down even more... that would help too. =p

HA this seriously happens to me all the time! You know you're crazed when you're coming up with excuses to leave the room to check the game. When I am at work and can see my phone notifications but don't have time to check them I go crazy and go to the bathroom for five minutes to recalculate/respond to messages and such.

We need a Subterfugers Anonymous :P

  • I want to have the option of pausing for a set number of hours for each player in the game.
Let's say each player gets 12 hours to pause in total... that can be used in whatever combination as they want.

  • I like the idea, but I think the most likely use of it would be to annoy other players. "You're 10 minutes from killing my queen? I'm stopping the game for 12 hours"

Ok, so what if the whole game could vote to pause at any time? Like, if I didn't want to be checking Subterfuge on Thanksgiving, I could propose that to the game. Majority passes?
Of course, why anyone wouldn't want to be checking Subterfuge on Thanksgiving is beyond me...

  • I strongly request to have this as a option to create a new game, that you can set up to 10 hrs of down time each day.

I am playing my 1st game, I find out that if you don't react to other players nightly movement, you will be set back and definitely in a disadvantage. It is so obvious I am surprised that are people who played few games and think it is ok not to check at night.

Last 2 night the game gets tricky, I am projected to win 1st place. After I found out at night going to pee, an ally is sending a large sub fleet to a neutral outpost very close to one of my mine that could take it over,I have to scramble sending reenforcement to the mine from everywhere else nearby to the mine and I cannot go back to sleep for couple of hours. I seriously don't want play any more after this game because it is too much for playing a game.

You need to do certain things in timely fashion. You don't want to give your ally ideas if your defense is too weak and there are huge benefit to break up.

Another night I have to jump from outpost to outpost. But I shouldn't schedule too many waypoints because end output is not decided until that time which is at middle of the night depends on that time's situation. The game is ending soon, don't have the luxury to wait until next morning and then move my fleet.

I don't like the idea I have to come up plans at night because other player's movement. That ruin sleep definitely. I will definitely not play anymore if the option is not there, and I believe serious game players agrees.

It is up to you guys to decide put in this feature or not. When you have it set in the open game, others will see and decide if they want to join or not. It is open information. Which people have similar schedule will play together.

I am willing to pay for the game after playing. I want to play rated game, it is more fun. But last 2 night is too rough and I am seriously thinking quiting after the game because I cannot function properly in day time if I don't get good sleep at night.

  • I get the impulse to check the game late at night. In both of those scenarios, though, you don't lose very much ground by waiting 8 hours to schedule your orders. Losing an outpost for a bit (or even forever) doesn't really hurt very much in the long run. I think your position is far more resilient than a lot of players new to the game think.

If someone is threatening your queen, you can almost always move it away when you wake up in the morning.

If someone is threatening your mine... that one has gotten me before.

I think in general, though, it's usually really easy to see big attacks coming well in advance. Does someone have 100+ drillers headed towards your border? Is someone assembling a queen hunter sub (nav/pirate/assassin). Since you can see everything around you, the game is more about predicting your opponents moves than anything. Before I check it at night, I think through all the things enemies (or allies too) could accomplish in 8 hours that would hurt me.

All that being said, an option to pause the games at set times everyday I would be in favor of. It just doesn't feel like an essential to me.
