You can do that, but then your profile will show that you have resigned and right now, the majority of people see resignations as a purely bad thing.

Right, I see. Thanks for clearing that up.

I don't think that's always the case. In the game where I resigned I spent a solid hour trying a variety of options in the hopes of finding a way to stop my opponent or otherwise take the win. Maybe I can slingshot a Nav-Assassin sub near his Queen as I take an outpost that gives me vision. Nope. How about I capture one of his mines to reduce his Neptunium count. Can't. What if that Smuggler that's way out of position can make it back it time? Not quite.

My opponent didn't see this battle of wits, didn't see this struggle, but it still happened. I also didn't see his defensive posturing. I didn't see what he was defending against that I couldn't even do. I didn't see his paranoia of an attack I didn't even know I threatened.

In the end there was a lot of struggle, and unless you talk to your opponent and let them know about it, then I think you're missing out on a lot. In most of my games I'll send personalized messages once it's over with some timestamps for them to checkout in the replay. It usually leads to great discussions and I find it a really rewarding part of the game. I'm glad chat isn't cut off once the game ends and I'm glad the game sticks around for a day in my current games.

  • Also the lvl1 restriction for only 1 game at a time is a thing. Artificially ending a game that can logically just wait another 12 hrs to finish naturally just so one can bypass one of the only restrictions that maybe encourage people to support the game shouldn't be a justification for resigning IMHO

  • So I haven't attempted this, so I don't know if the game allows it. Couldn't you either gift your queen or send it to be captured at an outpost to surrender and end your game?

  • You could, but when you lose the queen, you lose the game. And then it will count as "defeated" towards your stats.

You'd want to survive, so that you could get a medal and good stats.

Only thing I can think of, is to give drillers so that the other person can build another mine, or give up your outposts to the other player. Both in order to speed up the ending.

Don't you get a medal if you are defeated when only 1 or 2 other players are left? If you get defeated with 2 players left, you should still be third.

What a cool and considerate idea! Doing post-mortems with opponents once the in-game tension is gone seems like a great way to learn new techniques and strategies. I have yet to run into any opponents who are this verbose in-game, but I'd sure look forward to finding you in a match sometime!

Solution: have the system not count resignations on your profile if you got a medal in that game?

I recently emailed about something like this, after a game ended up in a situation where no one left was interested in attacking anyone else, and it was clear how the remaining players would place, but there was still roughly 48 hours left on the clock before anyone hit 200 Np. I was told it was a feature that would be somewhat complicated to add and that would only rarely be used, so it was unlikely that they would ever implement it. I think that's a pretty reasonable position for them to take.
