Strategy, feedback, or anything SUBTERFUGE-related

  • I’ve shared my thoughts on the ideas from the blog post, But I have a few more I think would be beneficial:

    Game Play Improvements:

Game Play Improvement Idea 1: Pirate targeting

As of right now, when there are two ships close together, or a ship is close to an outpost, its almost impossible to target. I would love to see an easier way to use the pirates targeting system without giving away information on ships that could be targeted.

Game Play Improvement Idea 2: Better sub control in busy areas

Another area that could use improvement is creating subs from factories that are fairly busy with subs arriving, subs leaving, and subs in queue to leave. I have a huge problem with this when scheduling future orders. I’m not sure how this could be fixed globally, but I think 3D touch here could help. At least for those who have it. (For the record, I hate 3D touch)

Game Play Improvement Idea 3: Friend of Foe

When playing multiple games, it becomes difficult to keep track who you’re allied with and who your enemy is. I’d love to see some sort of system in place that quickly lets you reorient yourself. Maybe some sort of second ‘light’ like the one that shows the player is online. But with a blue light for ally and red for enemy.

Game Play Improvement Idea 4: Option to disable camera replay until after match ends

    Pretty Self explanatory.

Game Play Improvement Idea 5: Captains Log Thread in Communications tab.

This would be a simple and private way to keep notes on events occurring in the game.

Game Play Improvement Idea 6: Invite players by username

    Pretty Self explanatory.

Game Play Improvement Idea 7: Panning

I believe these are already being done, but camera panning to bases when tapped on in chat. Samething for the time machine as well.

    Game Balance Improvements:

Game Balance Improvement Idea 1: Give the Navigator the ability to target ships (like the pirate) but with a negative speed boost factor of .75.

As of right now, there is only one unit that is capable of targeting ships that are not on a ‘normal’ path. The pirate. While theres only a few instances where ships travel from a ‘normal’ path, the navigator as the ability to do so. And having only 1 answer to beat the navigator is the definition of unbalanced.

For a more detailed explanation, look here: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=533&p=2542#p2542

Game Balance Improvement Idea 2: Stopping Specialist Stacking

I don’t know how I feel about specialists stacking… On one hand, It’s really cool and adds depth to the game. On the other, its strange speed specialists don’t stack, but Kings and Engineers do…

    Menu Improvements:

Not a huge deal, but I feel like overall, all the menu’s could use a small makeover. Mainly:
-Resign/Leave/Cancel button should be inside the in game menu.
-There should be an In Game Menu.
-The In Game Menu should have the resign/leave/cancel button.
-The in game menu should also contain all player names for easy access to player profile/player notes.
-Game list could user a filter

Ladder Play (A more refined “Ranked” match)

    Ladder Improvement Idea 1: Ladder

More on this later, but I think a Starcraft Style ladder would be killer for Subterfuge.

Ladder Improvement Idea 2: Ladder Maps

Obviously, any ladder would have to have a ladder pool of maps. These could be very cool to have.

This is a very long list of things that don't have anything to do with the blog post.

If they are adding things that we want, then the best thing to add isn't necessarily included in the 4-5 items they included in the blog post.

  • I think this was brought up elsewhere in the forum, but I'll be expanding it with details (and tying it into the topic of the blog post).

The Medals won from games could be used to unlock various rewards, encouraging people to keep playing, and keep getting better. Every Medal you win would add a certain number of points to your account:

    • Bronze - 1 point
    • Silver - 3 points
    • Gold - 5 points

These points could work as a currency (i.e., you spend them), or as a progress tracker (i.e., stuff gets unlocked when you hit a certain threshold). If the former, you could purchase additional currency. If the latter, you could have a purchase that unlocks all the options immediately. I like the threshold unlock method, myself, but either way could work.

    Some reward ideas:

10 Points - Bolded name in chat.

25 Points - Choose preferred color. This would work as such: Players can set a preferred color, and a backup color. When they join a game, if their preferred color is free, they get that color. If not, and the backup color is free, then they'll get the backup color. If neither is free, they'll get a random color. Players who have not unlocked this, or select Random, will get a random color on joining.

50 Points - Able to select one of a set of small icons to appear next to your name in chat.

100 Points - New sub design. Doesn't need to be anything fancy, just a slightly different design.

250 Points - Your specialist icons now have a shiny golden background.

500 Points - New outpost design. So long as the differences are only minor details, so it's obvious that a Generator is a Generator, etc., it should be fine.

Those are just some thoughts. Obviously you should only be able to unlock cosmetic changes with this system. Unlocking a sub/outpost design here wouldn't necessarily preclude selling additional designs. Basic redesigns could be unlocked, while fancier themed versions could be purchased individually (or in a pack).
