There are a lot of people that simply cannot buy L2 and you guys must understand that.

You're making sound so simple to just blow $12 on a game, when in reality a lot of players simply can't do that. Yes it's not expensive and it might seem so trivial to you, but it's not that easy when your parents aren't as normal as you assume.

So, I'm a poor college student. I get what it means to not be able to buy things. I don't have disposable income, and the $10 I spent on Subterfuge was splurging.
That being said, if I hadn't bought L2, I'd have to understand that I'll be missing out on a lot of the game. The devs aren't making money, and it'd be selfish of me to ask them to give me the benefits of L2 without me paying.
Before you get upset, I get that you're not asking for L2. But the benefits of L2 include playing in multiple games at the same time, and that's very important for these tournaments. Games would be delayed for as much as a week by a L1 player who wasn't able to join, I believe.
I honestly think that you get a lot of the game using L1. The devs are being generous by even letting you play, ad-free (mostly).

The other thing that I want to point out is that these aren't official. TopKilla is planning to make a tournament. TopKilla is not an official Subterfuge team member. TopKilla can make his tournament however he wants to make it. He could make it a rule that, "Only people who have green skin may join," if he wanted. This isn't personal, and he's just doing research for his own benefit, and, by extension, to make a better tournament.

I wasn't referring to the original post, I was mostly responding to the replies that said things making buying L2 seem easy. Also, it's not as if I care too much about this tournament, I just don't think that it should be exclusively L2, I mean, wouldn't there ber reserves, people to fill in spots?

  • Actually, I think this wouldn't be so much of a problem once the Devs release the x100 version of the game. I would prefer it to be faster actually, fast enough so that the average game will end in 30 minutes. If this happens I am quite sure playing multiple games at once would be quite suicidal, unless there is a tournament set up for slow games.

I mean, people will still play the regular game...

But probably not for tournaments! It would take much too long (especially because you can't determine the next round without the first unless you aren't doing knockout or swiss format, in which case I don't know what format you would do that would make things fair)

Road put this into perspective very well. The whole idea behind L2 only tournaments is that you can get an ideal number of games played in roughly a 30 day time period. As opposed to maybe a game and half if you were to include L1s.

As far as the $12 to buy the game goes, if you can afford a device that can play Subterfuge, you should be able to scrape together $12 to buy Subterfuge. (Especially if you live in America.) Even if it takes a month or two. $12 is nothing compared to the -$23,000 Subterfuge has earned Ron and Noel so far.

It's highly unlikely that there will ever be a x100 tournament. It's simply way to difficult to arrange the number of people required to all be available for hours at a time.

  • I'm just gonna recap what I said earlier. Even though I am l1, l2 exclusive tournaments wouldn't bother me, as someone pointed out you can make a tournament with whatever rules you want. If this did become a general rule for tournaments, I could make an l1 only tournament, and so could anyone else who wasn't l2.
My faith has found a resting place,
    Not in device or creed;
    I trust the ever-living One,
His wounds for me shall plead.
    I need no other argument,
    I need no other plea,
It is enough that Jesus died,
And that He died for me.

For a moment i thought x100 meant 100 players, now I really wanna play a match with 100 players, would buy L2 an instant.

Oh wow that would be pretty awesome. You could have such a complex social structure in the game.......
for example you would probably have teams of 2-3 allies attacking each other, until a team of 2-3 teams of 2-3 allies attacks them, and they realise that they were all part of one big alliance to begin with and that attacking each other was just pretty foolish...The map would be so big you probably wouldn't be able to explore all of it....
    It would be pretty awesome...
