STARTED Experiment Series Game 02

Strategy, feedback, or anything SUBTERFUGE-related

  • Is it too late for me to join?

Also wouldn't it be simpler to just have a code 1-2-3 posted here for everyone?

    Example:
The specialist pick random generated code is:

    1 - 3 - 2 - 3 - 3

That means everyone would have to take the first (leftmost) pick for first hire, then third (rightmost) pick for second hire, etc...

This would be dramatically simpler, less work, allow an anonymous game, be more corroboratable, etc

The problem with this is how your selection of hires is given out. The second slot is ALWAYS an offensive hire. This means that anytime a 2 was rolled, everyone in the game would get an offensive hire. Same goes for slot 1, which is defensive, and slot 3, which is other. It wouldn't be as random as we would like it to be, and you'd have the potential for everyone to end up having a bunch of the same specialists.

Also, you can only be so anonymous in this game, because everyone has to sign up for it. Everyone will know who is in the game, they just won't know who is who.

  • With regards to the numbering:
    Does it go 1=defensive 2=offensive 3=other?
The specialists aren't actually in the same order when viewed before and after the hire becomes available. Beforehand, it's 1=other 2=offensive 3=defensive

Also, anonymity won't work since we'll be able to tell who is who based on their hires. You'll have to go into the doc and change each name to the color of the player, I.e. "Olive" instead of "RoadKiehl"

  • Yes the second slot is always offensive -- in some way. So what? Slots 1 and 3 appear interchangeable. Sometimes a smuggler is in 1, sometimes 3.

Having 1 code for everyone would allow for anonymity.

The PM's to join could apparently be sent through a 3rd party forum member.

I thought Slot 1 was defensive and slot 3 was other, but I could be mistaken.
However, I rather like the idea of everyone having different hire numbers, rather than everyone having the same hire type, as aforementioned.
As anonymous games have just started, I'd rather wait a bit before introducing anonymity to Experiment games, especially ones where people have to follow a certain rule, specific to a player, like this one. Ones like westward expansion or Specialized combat can be easily played anonymously.

Right, I can explain this. Like I alluded to before, the order of the specialist categories is consistent. However, the order is different depending on whether you're looking at future hires or current hires.
For Future hires, it goes: Other, Offensive, Defensive
For Current hires, it goes: Defensive, Offensive, Defensive.
They just mirror the order across the axis of the screen, so it looks like the order is random, but it's not.

So if I have hires coming up in the order, "Princess, Thief, Sentry," when those hires come up, they'll be in the order, "Sentry, Thief, Princess."
