  • @ ron
Reading back my previous words, I think I came off a bit harsh. No disrespect was intended. I just miss your concise yet impactful posts! I also love this game and it pains me to see it fading (I can only imagine how you must feel though, so I apologize if I was insensitive).

This is the best game that has ever been released on a smart phone. I say this with no hyperbole.

it is true, this game isn't doing well financially. if you want more details you can read here: http://blog.subterfuge-game.com/post/13 ... the-future

as a result, we've decided to move on to other projects, BUT, there will be another update coming with fixes for some unsightly bugs, renaming the negative medals to "you made me angry" so that they're not such a stain, and adding medal purchasing to android. expect that within about a month.

Hi Ron! Just to let you know that this is the best game ever on smartphone and we, the players are sad to hear that financially, the game isn't doing well. I wish you all the best and I hope the other projects will be a game of deception and ruses like this one. Again, good job guys, this is an amazing game and don't forget to bring us new features if possible.

  • Well I guess....since Subterfuge will be releasing its (last?) update soon, I wonder how possible it is to take matter's into our own hands. There have been a few people who have displayed some reasonable programming skills, and I would love it if there was some way we could contribute to the game for the Devs without them having to do anything... I feel like Subterfuge deserves to be continued by the player base. I think the Devs have earned it, although I don't know how willing the Devs are to release any form of source code anytime soon...

We could try and work on projects to update the game and so on... and when we think we've come up with something good we'll just email them and see if they approve of it and update the app? idk I just feel like something should be done you know....

  • Maybe Ron And Noel can sell the rights to an interested party and get some ROI before walking away...

  • ok, so I am in love with this game as most of you guys (and gals)
I bought L2 immediately, I am purchasing 2-3 medals in each game (31 already)
I am happy with the game as it is and don't need any major improvement to continue enjoying it
so, I would be happy to know what "moving on another project" means - stopping the development completely/partially? shutting off the servers?
anyway, thanks for bringing such quality to the appstore

  • Given that Ron said the final update will clean up some glaring bugs and add ability to purchase medals on Android, I think it's safe to assume that they are going to keep the servers up and running. So we'll be able to keep playing, which is a big win, I think!

So when he says they are moving on to other projects, I assume he means they just won't continue ongoing development of new features, balance, etc.

  • Maybe if the players found a way to increase its publicity, we could all possibly chip in and make something happen. The app is hard to find on the App Store, so very few of the few that see it actually download it. A lot of the new players that join were referred by friends. The week it was on the featured apps of the App Store, tons of people downloaded it including myself. Some people have passion and love for this game; I want to be a part of the community. Unfortunately, the number of players is slowly fading. It can't get new players if nobody knows about it. Games like clash of clans bombs our TVs with advertisements. The game needs a way to get in people's heads so they consider downloading it. I agree that ads for lvl 1 would increase profits

Seeing the Devs run this game, I'm excited to see what they come up with in 3 years what they come with. They are great guys with the potential to amaze our minds. This game is an example of that. It's hard on me to see the game struggling, and I wanna do something about it along with the other dedicated players. There is a reason I play so much; passion speaks louder than cash.

    Thank You Ron and Noel

When I emailed Ron, he said the thought had crossed their minds.

On the subject of keeping the game alive, I'm going to sticky a "Save/Prolong/Continue etc. Subterfuge" thread over on /r/Subterfuge. If you're interested in brain storming ideas to keep the game alive, (crowd funding, promoting, merchandise, fresh game ideas) come over to the subreddit and join the conversation.

    Here's that thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/Subterfuge/comments/439qoi/if_youre_interested_in_keeping_the_development_of/

  • I always thought there would be higher access levels to be purchased in the future as new game modes came out. Like L3, L4, L5 etc. I don't have issues putting some extra money into the game, and a shirt wouldn't put me off either assuming that the money would go to the devs. But I think the bigger issue is that we need more players. I don't know what the total player base is but atm there are 6000+ players in 1000+ games which in reality isn't a lot, so a conservative assumption of 6,000 players, lets say 50% buy L2 license that's about $30,000 which is a one time fee. And if the medals are $1, with 6,000 players, it won't generate a large revenue.

Then again, I don't think this one game would be able to sustain a lifestyle for a person so I think when you create mobile games you need to have a portfolio of many different games lets say 10 that generate $15,000 a year that would be worthwhile. Its why most games out there (i.e. clash of clans, boom boom beach, etc.) are cash shop heavy, cause otherwise they wouldn't be profitable.
