ESG 06 Combat Logs

Strategy, feedback, or anything SUBTERFUGE-related

  • Captain's log, subdate 'Day 5, 08 28'.

The battlefield is strewn with the bodies of the vanquished, and most of the vanquished used to be part of the TOTR army. It is with great pleasure that I survey the chaos and the destruction, occasionally picking up one of their dead soldiers and pretending that he is my personal talking dummy...

We continue the unending assault. Without pause. Without yield. Without fear. Without honey roasted peanuts - I really thought I packed enough but when you have to share...

The rumour mill is also churning of a double agent in the TOTR camp. I can neither confirm or deny the charges of treason; however, it would certainly be a shame that history may forever be contaminated, assigning credit for our inexorable victory to a traitor rather that the brothers who have fought this war with me, beside me, and for me.

In the end, 'tis neither here nor there, nor anywhere. It's EVERYWHERE.

In closing, I retire once again to my chambers to dream of Tasha Yar, and to wonder if she could have crushed my puny skull between her elegant thighs. Man she was hot. Why did they have to kill her off??

And early grey tea and classical music and maybe I'll play that silly pipe I played a couple of times.

    END COMMUNICATION
Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds...

    START OF LOG
Perhaps it was by luck that Niverio has temporarily assumed the position of sleeping bear, and Crover that of tactician.
Headwind has been made against Niverio with silent speed, but Crover has reinforced his position to my North with a concerning number of specialists.
It appears as though [REDACTED] may be [REDACTED]; I will have to [REDACTED] for now.
Not much can be said other than that. Troops continue piling up in a face down against Niverio, and unsteady combat occurs against Crover.
I hope for the best for my Squadron mates.
    END OF LOG

*Kzzhhht* Lead Experimenter P here, friendly reminder that the purpose of this specific ESG is complete teamwork with no secret alliances, deals, or backstabbings, which is contrary to normal Subterfuge in which alliances are made and broken in a higher frequency. Even if you have personal grudges against someone, please don't let that ruin the fun for the rest of us, both for the *currently* winning team (no fun in stomping a weaker team) and *currently* losing team (no fun against impossible odds), and work together if you have to. If things get more offensive, I may have to issue out some heavier mandates other than vote generalization, but I hope not to. I hope both teams and all players in this game are understanding about this, as well as any future ESG's or special game modes. But don't let this message bring you down - this is a game after all, so have fun and happy hunting! *Kzzhht*

    START OF LOG:
    Menace here.
Captain Nojo, my sonar shows that the B3ast in on your doorstep. I hope that you are safe and that you have a plan to move him out of your immediate territory. I, of course, will assist in any way I can. That said, sir, I do not have much help to offer.

It is hard to look. I do not want to look. I feel sick.

My tumbler is empty; it is days like these that I worry we did not stock enough Jack Daniels.

Not more than three hours ago, Blue Ball #1 Niverio and I had nearly 1200 in combined driller forces. Now, good god man, now we have less than 500. I have 155 exactly. And in about four hours, I will turn away a massive attack from the Hibernating Bear as well…costing me the rest.

Captain, I am happy to report that no ground was lost on our west side. But that is the end of my happiness, and I fear that happiness may not ever be a goal of mine after today. I have seen things I cannot unsee. In my entire career, I have never seen destruction like this. I have never lost this many lives while commanding my navy, even in all my tours combined. I feel sick.

Earlier in the day I received intercepted communications. The captured message was from the opposing great Bastard Captain, Radio. In it, he held a dead soldier to his side and pretended to make him talk and dance. As the corpse of Jonathan Price, Petty Officer 2nd Class, was jostled and manhandled, he was pantomimed to speak such ideas as “It is with great pleasure that I survey the chaos and the destruction.”

This all just makes me wonder: Who are we fighting?

I also received [REDACTED] from the possible [REDACTED] today. It included odd terms, veiled threats, probable [REDACTED]. I did not understand it. My guess is that it was not meant for me. I truly hope this [REDACTED] knows what devastation he has helped to cause. If I ever get my hands on [REDACTED], I will forcibly bring him to the home of PO2 Jonathan Price’s widow. I will sit his ass down and make him look at the kids who will grow up with no father, and I will rip an apology from his throat to offer to those kids, to that widow. Then I will smash his head like a god damn melon. [REDACTED REDACTED].

I feel sick. But I am uncertain if I will vomit or cry.

Godspeed, drillers, however many may be left, and good luck. Menace signing off.
    Over and out.

    END OF LOG 5.

  • Commander's Log Day 5
    Reporting to: NERD team
    Commander: Niverio
I do not want to write this down. Even though our mission is simple and straightforward, the costs are too high. We are winning the fight, but all the losses made me wonder, was this really the way it was supposed to be? The attacks and counter attacks all repelled, and after I had to move my queen away from a sneaky attack, I do not know what to say. At least our team is ready and closing in on the targets.
    Niverio out.

  • Brigadier General Crover's Log
    Reporting to N.E.R.D
    Day Still Unknown

The death bells ring. A man with a cart walks past. "BRING OUT YER DEAD" he shouts. Quite ironic. I have no dead. They are all left at the outposts of the cursed Radio Opposers. Juanma206, mm1menace, and Pandasecret have piles of my men sitting on their doorsteps. It is not in vain. For however many of my men have fallen, I take an equal amount. The menace has turned me away again and again. He is now weak, and Commander Niverio should be able to sweep in. Pandasecret. Oh how I love irony. He calls be the bear, when his status literally shows he is a bear. He should've realized long ago, I identify as a crow. But -ver sounds so much better than -w. What am I doing. Ravings of a war mongering madman. That's all I've become. Sleep no longer calls to me. Those days are over. I now fight. My men are tired and dying. But I will not relent. Not until we eradicate these scum. Some may say I'm losing my mind. I say I'm finding my place in this underwater landscape.
So if you think your life is complete confusion
Because you never win the game
Just remember that it's a Grand illusion
And deep inside we're all the same.

  • Operator’s Record Cycle 6
    Operator: mm1Menace

    START OF LOG:
    Menace here.
Captain Nojo, I have little to report from day 6. I am trying to rebuild what I can. It is an arduous process, painstaking from having to manage every single driller that remains. It is mostly through sheer force of will that we hold the western front. Blue Ball #1, the smaller of the two balls, and the (perhaps now) Ravaging Bear continue to assault both Soren and Feld, but without success. But I do not know how much longer I can hold out.

We did have one inspirational event today. My top level Inspector discovered a phenomenal trick that, using electrical power from specific generators, allowed him to boost the maximum efficiency of our outpost’s shields across my entire territory. For this, I have offered him a significant promotion, one that includes a healthy raise of his salary, vastly increased responsibilities, and a brand new title: Security Chief. Congratulations to him, and well done, my man. Perhaps soon he will be able to provide this to all the rest of our team’s Operators. It appears that it may be needed.

While that advancement seems to have boosted the morale of our men, I cannot say that I am feeling any more encouraged. Scanning combats reports from a day ago makes me cringe; at this point, I wonder even if we were able to find victory here - would it be worth it? What are the great Bastard’s goals? If he wishes to install himself as a new leader of this place, to act as a Tyrant, we should surely attempt to stop him. But when does the price become too much? And have we already crossed that line?

Lastly, it appears that relocation may become a necessity soon. Captain, if you, or Operators Panda or Rooz, require temporary lodgings, I will make sure that you are as comfortable as possible. Keep me informed.

Godspeed, drillers, and good luck. Menace signing off.
    Over and out.

    END OF LOG 6.

    START OF LOG
Advance, parry, retreat, advance. A simple maneuver in the sport of fencing that can be applied to warfare. Thus I have advanced against Niverio forcing his Queen away disrupt some plans, parried a counter-attack, retreated, and now prepare to advance again.
Crover may have moved against me, but it matters not - my forces will recollect and strike back.
However, realities must be faced - our Operator's armies are outnumbered, and the enemy holds more ground than we do. While we must not lose morale, better strategies must be made - I await the Squadron leader's orders.
    END OF LOG

*Kzzhhht* Lead Experimenter P here, while it has now become relatively clear that the team compositions weren't optimal for a fair game (not withstanding that brilliant fights, tactics, and maneuvers have been done by both sides), this will serve important information as to player ranking and team synthesis for future games. Not to criticize Nojo, but do note that Radioactive's team has a cummulative ranking of 7082 (5882+1200 for Crover) with three of the five having close to 1500, and Nojo's team has a cummulative ranking of 6491, with most at a rating around 1400. So for anyone considering team games in the future, do consider player ranking, experience, and team ability. In any regards, TOTR, keep up the good fight, for tide turners are known to occur in Subterfuge. Happy hunting!*Kzzhht*

  • Message found left behind in Dejongh and Suijin:
    NOTE OF SURRENDER
I, Pandasecret, hereby surrender to the forces of NERD, my last two of three outposts and my resignation to TOTR.
We may have entered this war too naive - and should have picked up the warning signs as NERD slowly took more and more territory. But we thought we could hold out and reverse the war. Unfortunately, we could not - we could have fortified our last bases, but that would only increase pressure on us as the siege would continue. I think it was in our best interest to stay alive and declare defeat. Perhaps one day, another group will rise and put NERD in its place, but today is not the day. Hundreds of drillers destroyed, dozens of agents killed, captured, or gone missing. Aye, these costs of war were fatal. Let us hope we can find better ways to resolve conflicts in the coming times. For now, the radio will keep on blaring, and no one will be there to turn it off.
While TOTR has suffered defeat, we must not rest on that fact. The B3AST virus may have spread out from V3XT, and the entire ocean floor may soon turn to carnage again as soldiers go insane by their insatiation of flesh and hunger for war. Though they were formerly my enemies, I wish them luck against what may be the worst yet.
