Just curious - how did you end up with only 4 players? Did you guys strategize knowing only 1 person had to be eliminated, so you didn't even bother mining?
A late start (entirely my fault for not checking the forum often enough, but entirely accidental), followed by a number of players not joining. We sent out the full range of invites and left it about a week, but only had 3 out of 7 join, plus none of the "reserves" took the opportunity to join either.
In terms of strategy, I made an alliance with one other player (Lotgewjai) and then made most of my plays to a) support that alliance and make my ally have faith in me and b) put myself in a strong position in case part a didn't come off! I figured that the best way to get through the round was to make my ally reluctant to betray me (and I know the other two tried to turn both of us at various points) and the best way to do that was to be the strongest player so there was no benefit to turning against me.
Was it any different to how I would have played an 8-player non-tournament game? I think we would have definitely tried to make it a 3 person alliance rather than stick to 2. Some of the chat was along the line of "we only need to knock one person out", but I don't think it had a massive effect on the moves I made. And arguably I completely ignored when orange built his first mine, wheras normally it might have triggered me to start at least thinking of my own mine. But generally no - and I think that's evidenced in the fact I came out first when only not being last was required!
