TopKilla Expedition Tournament: Finished - Conner3491 wins!

Strategy, feedback, or anything SUBTERFUGE-related

This is always the response people give: "oh they have 4 kings? Just have 4 generals/tycoons/engi". Besides this response just being incorrect(king is still better than any other stack), it's kind of a silly comeback. The point is that king is too strong and it is now being overused and taking some level of fun and strategy out of the game. I am in two tourney final games right now and king is being SPAMMED. The overuse of king shows how OP it is and that it needs a nerf.

  • On a side note-I'm sure the TET finale will qualify for the "most kings in one game" subterfuge record.

  • Ok.

    • One player eliminated
    • Roughly a 4 v 3 right now
    • 6 kings currently in the game
    • 3.3 days left according to my clock
    • Specialists were converted to other sides, so both the Hypno's and their promotions have been used.

    Where is the evidence?
I have my evidence though, in a recent 8-player domination game I played we were down to 2 people (everyone else had been eliminated or had resigned). At one point we both had the same number of outposts (24), and he had only 2 generals, whereas I had 4 kings. He also had a diplomat. My win took about 5 days, even though he only had 2 generals (he had 3 in the last few days)
    Kings aren't OP

  • the clock has changed a *lot* today. The game says it ends in a few hours, but 0.8h before it ends, it's extended by another day and a half again. It's that kind of game. It's crazy really. I believe the #1 player has/had 5 kings at some point, there are probably around 8 kings in the game and 4 of them have been tossed around between allies. A martyr+nav+pirate was sent 1h after that strongest player logged off for the night (we exploit sleep schedules) but still he was able to get online in time to target that sub with a pirate, and the martyr had to flee back. It's that kind of game. The winner will deserve the win.

  • The finale moves

    So here is the layout:
    * Factory heavy map (30% generators, bare minimum in a balanced game).
    * 8 Kings in the game. This game is a 3v4 where olive, blue and teal had 2+2+1 = 5 kings, and orange+brown+red+purple had 1+1+1+0=3 kings. Earlier in the game, brown had gifted his King to orange, and teal to olive.

So at the time of this screenshot, olive was in the lead with 3 mines, one of which he stole from brown. He had 3 kings at the time, orange had 2, and red 1. Orange and red had less than 48h to take a mine and slow down olive.

You can see a large attack by red being sent. At the time this is sent, it looks like it's gonna work, so we already start to think about the next phase. Blue (olive's ally) is also starting to get big, so drillers are already put into movement towards him. However, we didn't correctly included the sub blue gifted, so when it turned into a gift, the math changed and the attack seemed to fail.

However! Red is a strategic player and had been sending 1 driller subs from his factory for more than a day, just for the change orange should need to gift red a King. And now that would indeed made the difference! The King gift was scheduled to happen just before red's attack would hit, out of everyone's view, nobody could pick up on it. Great!

However, in an insane coincidence, at the exact same time, blue sent both of his Kings traveling, ready to be gifted to olive's 1 driller sub. Now olive would have 5 Kings!

And red's attack failed with only 4 drillers left at the mine. Orange, who had been very careful not to send attack that could be countered, now threw his drillers at olive as a last attempt.

  • However, that attack towards Billante, it just might work! Olive got nervous and sent several subs on their way.

Note the pirate without drillers targeting the incoming sub. At some point orange messaged his allies about olive messing up and losing his pirate. Even though a Sentry is coming to Solo, and blue is gifting olive again, it seems like it's gonna work!

Just to be sure, red is sending his smuggler+pirate+King to target a 1 driller sub from Red, the pirate speeds up the sub pre-collision, and once it is gifted, the smuggler speeds it up post-collision. Just in case!

So the Sentry takes 3 from the sub of 41 and turns it into 38. So far, so good!
