  • Maybe there should be a chameleon archtype. I seem to adapt my game to how my neighbours start. That said I think I am more piranha most games lol.

  • 10. The Kraken
A dangerous player. Well rounded and strategic, the kraken is your most valuable ally, and most dangerous foe. Generally aware of and constantly planning a 'bigger picture', they are skilled in diplomacy and manipulation, originally making friends with everyone they feel can help them, whether it be as an ally, or a enemy they can ally with and then betray. Krakens tend to claim just enough territory to be respected, but not enough to scare other players into targeting them. They mine as soon as they can, while building their defenses and strategically placing their queen, all while planning crushing attacks two days in advance. They connive other players to fight each other, making others unknowingly do their bidding. Although prone to backstabbing their friends, krakens know better than to alienate everyone. They have a sense of honor, and generally have one or two friends they trust completely from beginning and that can be their downfall.
    Favorite Specialist: Security Chief
Mining Tendency: Aggressive, but intelligent. Mines are strategically placed, and drilled when they can be most efficient.
Diplomatic Style: Professional, manipulative and intelligent
Friend: Whoever can be used as a tool
    Foe: The weakest link

This is my playing style, and I may have exaggerated a bit about being a deadly enemy because my plans tend to collapse, but if it is executed correctly, it'd be terrifying. I've only ever come across one other kraken though, and he won first.

I like it, haha. I've run across one or two players like you, too.
I don't think I'll include it, since it seems to be a blend of the Shark, Octopus, and Pufferfish, but props for knowing your own playstyle!

  • The Specialist

A player who views the logistics of producing drillers, mining, and pitched battles as lowly forms of warfare. Seeing specialists as the true protagonists of the Subterfuge story, the Specialist carefully curates their specialists to form stacks of doom and chaos. They vary in their diplomatic skills; however, their ability to use specialists like a scalpel against a foe causes all of their neighbors to be understandably nervous. Specialists tend to have poured over the Subterfuge Wiki to learn every possible nuance of specialists' skills as well as the best possible combinations to meet specific tactical needs. They view strong defenses and large numbers of drillers as the proving grounds from which to test new combinations of specialists mettle in battle.

How to Spot: Their neglect of everything but their precious specialists
    Favorite Specialist: The King
    Mining Tendency: Passive
Diplomatic Style: Varies; often speaks softly but carries big sticks
Friend: The Angler Fish (They just understand each other's obsessive qualities)
    Foe: The Crab

  • I love these!

A couple suggestions of my own - these may be mixes of the previously stated archetypes

The Cone Snail (*I mixed up conches with cone snails - unfortunately the later is less catchy)
The Cone Snail makes a determined but not aggressive initial expansion early in the game and then turns to defense. As opposed to Crabs, Cone Snails look unassuming on their borders but keep substantial forces right outside their neighbors' sonar. A neighbor may see their unguarded outposts as easy pickings-3 hours in the future their's a ping and smuggler with 400 drillers is flying in while your enemies have been rallied to take your flank.
How to spot: The intelligence reports claim this player has 500 drillers total but neither you nor any of your neighbors can see more than 10 to an outpost. Where did they all go?
    Favorite specialist: The Smuggler
Mining Tendency: Mines early but not enough to attract attention- may leave a lightly guarded mine near a border
Diplomatic Style: Friendly and unassuming- looks for allies but is unlikely to back you up - expects to be back-stabbed
Friend: The Octopus but noone is to be trusted
    Foe: The Piranha

    The Squid:
The evil twin of the octopus. This player uses diplomacy to spread misinformation- turning alliances inside out to profit on the spoils of backstabbing.
How to spot: Messages early - claims your neighbors are asking them to help attack you but something doesn't seem right...
    Favorite Specialist: The Intelligence Officer
Mining Tendency: May drill a single mine after a few days - more likely to take another players mine right after another player smashed their subs and decimated the defenses
Diplomatic Style: Over eager- seems to know all about the other players' plots
    Friend: No friends, only pawns
Foe: The Shark/ Any players that have the wherewithal to compare notes

    The Sea Cucumber
Are they really alive? You keep hoping they will autoresign but after 20 hours of inactivity they've checked in again. Will those nearby outposts be easy pickings or will they spring to life at the last second? Keep counting the hours, hope it makes it 48 before those factories have 90 drillers each.
Favorite Specialist: They didn't hire any but you're worried about the ones they might hire
    Mining Tendency: None
    Diplomatic Style: None
    Friend: None
    Foe: None

  • #TOP SECRET
    "orca A.K.A the killer whale"

A bunch of player who build a server. usually had more than 2 player. like 3 or 5 people who know each other in real life or friends to join in the game server. they adapt like wolf pack. at first day start, they just hide in sheep skin so no body know who they are. days 2 act like lonely shark or pair of piranha even ask other to try join their pack before stab them from behind. some pack coordinate very well to maintain their mining rate above other. and the alpha orcha it self, hide like octopus.
the alpha will target to get 1000 cap and 700 drill produce/days but none to low mining rate. the alpha will build mine and give it freely to other orcha to maintain their mining rate in early game who act like crab. in late game the alpha orca will claim his throne by take other orca mine and the foe mine. gold medal is his desire.

how to spot : by days 3. but usually after the firstblood all the pact will join to one big united pact by funding the low mine rate (the aplha orca)

their purpose : secure the gold medal. and all the three medal will come to their hand if possible.

Favorite Specialist: anything that has global effect.

Mining Tendency: coordinate and always in high mining rate by 2 mine at early game.

Diplomatic Style: at start they really argue with the border issue and tend to equal sharing. and late game only talk with their kind.

Friend: Orca (They just already know each other's plan like the fake war between the orca)

Foe: The Kraken (cause the kraken can steal one of the medal by using his 3 ways alliance or with his high survival abillity)

  • Oh my goodness I hate seacumbers. They are so annoying even though they shouldn't be.
My faith has found a resting place,
    Not in device or creed;
    I trust the ever-living One,
His wounds for me shall plead.
    I need no other argument,
    I need no other plea,
It is enough that Jesus died,
And that He died for me.

  • We should make one of those online quizzes for this!
Like ask questions, then at the end, it classifies them as one of these types

I'll get on that! Great idea!

Edit: Here's the link to the short quiz, if anyone's interested. Unfortunately, I can't edit it, so it'll be in this limited form forever.
