Pre-match arrangements

In the last match, a guy told me that he didn't want to win, and he only entered the game to boost his friends. I told him it was against the rules and he said he didn't care. Is there anything enforcing the rules? Or is not a rule, just a guideline?

NO PRE-FORMED ALLIANCES: Players may not come into a game with the intent of playing together as a team.

In the current match, I suspect the same. One guy isn't playing, didn't mine, and it's just gifting away his subs to other two players, who of course are allied and always attack the same target, at the same time.

Definitely shoot the devs an email! Multi-game arrangements are strictly against the code of conduct.

I was coming onto forums to ask a similar question.

Game started, player 1 allies with me and asks to take a generator near me
I say I'd rather have it and he throws a fit and says if we squabble over it then player 2 (next to us) will have the advantage
I say fine take it
He takes it and then proceeds to attack me right away
I complain to the group that player 1 is a douche and can't be trusted
Player 2 admits to me that player 1 is a friend of his IRL
Player 1 & 2 clearly on same team, gifting etc
Means they coordinated that opening to weaken me

This is cheating, no?

I will add that it's experiences like these that ruin the game, make it less fun. I hope the devs are able to crack down on this.

In this case, I think you're falling into a grey area of the code of conduct.
I think the game allows (rightfully so) for friends to play in public games together. If one player is a bit... brash in their diplomacy, that's not because of the friend, but because he's... applying a blunt form of diplomacy.

I don't like those players either, but what are you gonna do? The problem is that this is just a case of someone being obnoxious. It's not harassment or slurs, nor is it overt cheating.

I think it's been said many times on the forums that it's "not fair to have a friend in the game."
Well, no, it isn't, but if you want to do something about it, approach the other players in the game. Create your own unfair advantage through shrewd diplomacy.
I think the ability to invite friends into your game is healthy for the meta, and I think it would be a shame if the devs banned that.

This!

One of the point of games is to play them with your friends! As long as there is no maffia like game win gifting circle going on there should be no problem.

Since there will be Team game modes in the future http://blog.subterfuge-game.com/post/132615140466/subterfuge-launch-and-the-future I guess the rule will be more specific anyhow.

Until then dont whine and make a frew friends yourselve.

In the future I would love to see some alliance system implemented into the game <3 .

Hmm would you guys feel differently if a player brought 2 friends into the game for a 3-man alliance?
What if they did it more than once?

Just trying to feel out the gray areas.

Maybe I should recruit my spouse to play with me so that I can be sure to have an ally in these games. Or is that too much like multi boxing?

I dunno, I feel like it's a matter of intent. If you're inviting friends so that you have an ally, then you're doing it for the wrong reason.
Of course, you bring up a good point. How do you discern one from the other? I don't know.
The only thing I will do is reiterate what I said before: It would be very sad to see the "invite friends" button leave.

But...the first thing it says upon joining a game is "Invite your friends"...and with no ability for in-game friends, it can only mean friends from outside/irl.

No no, you misunderstand. I think irl friends are good for the game, but in-game friends would be unhealthy because it's fundamentally a multi-game deal. Same thing with players who invite friends solely to have an ally.

Maybe it should say something like: "Invite your friends so you can backstab them in a few days." :D
