Specialist Idea "Scout"

Strategy, feedback, or anything SUBTERFUGE-related

  • Gains 0.5 local speed while in sub.
While on a sub, reveals any other subs or outpost activity within a 25% sonar range of a normal outpost (moving sonar).
However, due to its active sonar, the scout (including anyone else on the sub) is revealed to everyone.

Description: Gains 0.5 speed and reveal all activity within 25% sonar range of a regular outpost, also exposing yourself.
Flavor text: Speed is the essence of war. (Take advantage of the enemy's unpreparedness; travel by unexpected routes and strike him where he has taken no precautions. - Sun Tzu's Art of War).
Symbol: Winged sandals (like Hermes, God of the Messengers)

Possible combos: Scout/Navigator - keep an eye on enemy activity with only a pirate being able to catch up to scout.
Scout/Navigator/Queen - when escaping with your Queen, find a weak outpost to retake!

  • I would be really interested in a sub with radar capabilities, I was thinking as a promotion for intelligence officer, and a global ability giving all subs a small amount of sonar.

If it was like yours and just a local ability, then I feel like it would have to be a full outposts range, or atleast most of it to be useful. As it is, 25% is hardly better then a martyr's blast range.

  • I think this is an interesting one, and i can see it's use in specific situations. But personally i don't think i'd ever pick it over any of the other specialists unless i was losing my last outpost and had to navigate my queen somewhere. its just usually a bad idea to send subs outside your sonar if you can help it, especially with a specialist onboard.

I think the reverse of this specialist might actually be better. ie: a specialist that clouds a small radius on other players sonar.

That is an interesting idea. But isn't it, in essence, the same as the "hidden sub" specialists that have been suggested before?

Idk. It very well might be, i haven't read every specialist suggestion thread or any about "hidden sub" specialists. It sounds like an invisible sub from the name though? Which is different from a sub that creates a small pocket of shadow that other players cant see into, as it would be obvious that there is SOMETHING there. You just cant tell what.

  • What about a defensive specialist that slows the speed down of all specialists within a certain range of an outpost. I like that idea about the scout?
