The Fourth Great War: Game highlights from my current game

Hello community

I feel like documenting my games and posting them on the forum. This game is still being played. If you happen to be one of the people in my game I will not forbid you from reading but you will probably want to wait for me to finish the game. Also try not to give me tips just because I want to keep the game fair to the other players. Anyway I will start to post the highlights shortly. Let me know if you would want to see me do this again. Also the game is a day old so the first few posts have already taken place. Just a heads up.

Here is my starting opening and land grab. I was wondering in general do you want to expand quickly and get ahead of the 8 ball or expand slowly and not get people angry at you? The game is well past that phase so I am not worried about asking for advice

So here is how the expansion went. I got most of the outposts I set out for. So blue is trying to nick an outpost from me. He loaded all of his drillers onto a sub and is sending them on their way leaving his factory completely open. You will notice that I sent a sub to attack his outpost. I also hired a thief.

So my opponents are starting to drill mines. Red, beige, and brown have all drilled mines. I will have one in 13 hours. So what are your thoughts on drilling in the first day. Do you attract a lot of attention or wait for others to start?

An interesting situation has come up. Brown has his queen open. He has no drillers defending it. Ordinarily this would be no problem but he has a tinkerer that is keeping his shields down. I sent a sub with a singular driller to the outpost. It is currently set to take the outpost. I am just going for it because why not. What are your thoughts on this situation.

After this post you will be caught up to the present time. This is just a post showing the path of my subs to drill me mine. As I said after this point I will be caught up.

I'll post general comments without taking your current game in mind.

Almost 100% depends on your preference. I'd like to talk to some people, and when you do that it's hard to go after *all* outposts that they could also be interested in. But within my playing style, I can still persue more outposts on one border than on another. Depending on the distance from my empire, if/how I've communicated with that neighbour, and wether the empty outposts are generators or factories.

In the very first day it takes 50 precious drillers from your total. That could be a lot. I wouldn't feel confident being the first to mine on the very first day without a *very* nice specialist hire.

Sure, go for it, if it's not your ally. Maybe it's someone's first game and they'll learn the hard way. Hopefully it won't scare them away from the game. (You might want to talk to them right after they lose to explain what happened.)
If your attack is countered or the queen is moved away, you'll only lose one driller. If I'd be the person with the queen exposed like that, I wouldn't start total war against you for sending 1 driller like this. It shows you understand the game's mechanics and might even earn you an ally.

Edit - the advice you didn't ask for:
* Maybe talk to blue. You might like to trade outposts. If he sends those 52 to your 8 driller outpost and lowers shields, you can give up that 8 driller outpost and take his 52 one. Makes more sense for both of you.

Now that I am caught up to my current situation I can start bringing more of the interesting stuff to your attention. So here is my pondery. Cyan is moving an investigative officer to his southern outposts close to my southern border. There is also a lutenant. I can sense an attack coming. He has 5 factories that are close to my border and could launch attacks from but I only have three in the area to defend. If I were to start fighting him I would be out produced and he will eventualy take me over. Here is his visible territory.

Those two specialists in combo look more like a defensive pairing. He can't really use them to attack and is potentially more worried about an attack from you.
