Version 2
I have noticed recently that many hosts have created tournaments and they have been somewhat disorganized (which isn't their fault, seeing as its the first time). As a Subterfuge enthusiast, I would like to suggest that a Subterfuge Tournament Committee be created to monitor certain future tournaments, which have contacted the STOC to create an official STOC tournament, and to create a tournament leaderboard as a more accurate means of showing the relative skill of a player. We will also provide a range tips for Hosts and players to ensure better and smoother tournaments!
Being recognized as a STOC tournament ensures the quality of the tournament as regulated by the STOC, which will encourage more people to join. STOC-hosted tournaments will have clear rules and format which will have been agreed upon by the members. Player-hosted tournaments which would want to be 'officially' recognized by STOC will have to contact the committee and whether the committee will accept it or not may depend on some guidelines which may be decided in the future.
The Leaderboard mentioned earlier will only list players who have competed in at least 3 tournaments to ensure accuracy of data. At the conclusion of each tournament, all players will be given a percentile which represents the percentage of people they beat or tie with. An example is listed below with an '*'. Once they have played 3 games, their average percentile finish will be calculated and they will receive a place in the STOC Leaderboard. When someone on the leaderboard plays more games, their average is reevaluated. Only the last X tournaments that someone plays will count towards their percentile (meaning that it is easier for an improving player to show their improvement).
Another of the reasons why I wanted to created this is because I would like to create a special Title scheme. Appropriately, from the leaderboards, these titles would be awarded to people who meet the criteria of those titles. I would suggest the criteria of the Titles to be something like (and many ideas are from chess titles...):
In any tournament the top X% of participants are awarded the respective titles.
1. The top seed gets the title of GrandMaster - GM
2. The top 0.1% get the title of SupemeMaster - SM
3. The top 0.25% get the title of EliteMaster - EM
4. The top 1% get the title of HIghMaster - HM
5. The top 3% get the title of STOC Master - M
(only use the highest ranked title)
For example, if RandomPlayer was ranked 15th out of 723 players, he would be a STOC Master and would have an 'M' displayed next to his name in future Tournaments that he joins as long as his highest title is still STOC Master. e.g. M RandomPlayer
For example, when listing an Elite Master an EM should be before his username and be placed in the 'players currently participating' list above all HighMasters, Masters and other participants but below all SMs and GMs. Even the host gets placed in his/her own title group.
There will also be a semiannual 'Qualifiers Tournament'. The Qualifiers tournament will invite the top 10 players on the leaderboard to play a normal game, using the next 10 as reserves if necessary. The winner will be awarded a permanent QTC (Qualifiers Tournament Champion) prefix followed by the years in which he won the QTC Title so e.g. 'QTC 2015, 2017, 2022 GM RandomPlayer' if Random player was the top seed on the leaderboard and won the Qualifiers Tournament in 2015, 2017, and 2022.
We should also have an excel spreadsheet posted on the forums which will be updated as frequently as possible to list the seeds and their average percentile finish so that everyone can see the seeds and their ranking.
What do you guys think? And would any of the moderators and previous tournament hosters (Topkilla, thunder) who would be interested in becoming part of this committee?
