Peace Making Etiquette

I always have the issue when making a deal with another player about who confirms the gift/trade first. It's annoying and frustrating when you have to deal with players like this; I am often well-meaning, but just don't trust enough to make a gift or trade first.
What I'm suggesting is whoever initiates the deal should be the one to gift or trade first(made subs gift, clear out base etc.) Obviously, people wouldn't have to follow this as a law, but I think it would alleviate tension between players, and help streamline trades. This way you don't negotiate with someone for 30+ minutes only to have the deal fall through due to no one wanting to make the first move. Also if you were initiating the trade, you'd go in with the mindset of having to act first.
Thoughts, ideas, improvements, will it work why or why not?

This is why I generally avoid making peace once I've committed to war. It's just not worth it.

When I attempt to make peace, I normally don't do everything at once. For instance, if I had multiple subs headed to the person I'm making peace with, I'd gift the smallest one, and then wait for them to do the same. That way, if they betray you, you haven't given away everything, and you can still change your plans, as opposed to watching all your gifts be immediately sent back to you as an attack.

I only make peace deals I can see on my sonar.
If we agree on a deal, we will set to gift on the sonar. I will split my deal into multiple subs (like when attacking a sentry). If after their first subs leaves and is not a gift, I will just use the other subs to retaliate. (same thing goes for evacuating a outpost if it's involved in the deal; send the drillers out in small groups in order, so that they can be cancelled and you will only lose a few if the deal goes wrong)

Making peace is not easy. I agree with working in smaller increments to earn trust.
