Specialist promotion: illusionist

Strategy, feedback, or anything SUBTERFUGE-related

  • I has been a good while since I came up with another specialist and I had the thought of a branching promotion specialist tree. So instead of just getting the option to promote to a king you could promote to some other specialist also. So I came up with a diffrent promotion for the hypnotist and here is what I came up with.

    Illusionist
    Promotes from hypnotist
Local: After an opponents sub engages in combat at an outpost you may launch a sub showing the exact same contents of the sun that was just engaged in combat with the illusionist. This sub does not take part in combat and disappears after it reaches its target.

  • Whoa I may need a play by play to quite wrap my head around that one!

So let's say your opponent had a sub with an infiltrator and 50 subs attacking an illusionist outpost. After the attack if you still hold the outpost you can launch a "ghost" sun that shows an infiltrator and 50 drillers at someone else. When it arrives it does no combat damage and disappears.

So what are the mechanics of this? Do you choose to launch the sub where you want? Can you launch it at any time as long as the base it kept, and can you only have one saved up? Is the specialist invisible on the base?

I mean if this happens you already know the sub doesn't do any damage, if the sub launches from the base you just attacked with this guy on there. In fact it won't work at all if it launches at the enemy who just attacked you.

  • I love the idea of sending a false sub- This would cause a the opponent to react to a threat potentially laying out an opening. Seems a little complicated, but I do like the idea alot! If there was a way ti maybe stream line it a bit.

  • Makes me think a Scrambler would be cool. It hides the # of units at an outpost or in subs.

Actually you wouldn't. The trick is that you might be sending an ACTUAL sub with the same number of drillers on it...
