Getting more people to play

I feel there is a lack of amount of people who are playing, and we have a micro-community of a few forum regulars (cough cough anyone in Stefan's game). If the game was a bit smoother, more publicity was made through media, and we the players just spread the word/rated the app high, more people will start playing.

If Ron or Noel reads this
 I suggest making the first tactical puzzles an automatic tutorial and emailing some companies to review the game.

There were a few publicity things that the devs did around launch. The game was featured on the App Store. And there were about 50k people playing at one point, I believe. The game doesn't stick with most people.
It does, however, have a dedicated following from a very specific type of gamer. If the devs are going to do more advertising, it would have to be very targeted advertising.
I think a game like this does best with word of mouth, though. It's a niche game, but I'm sure most people know at least a few others who would try and love it. Maybe that's just my experiences, but I've gotten 3 people playing this game myself. They'd have never tried it if I hadn't suggested it to them, I'm sure of that. If everyone who loves the game now does that, we could see 18k more players.

I convinced 2 of my friends to start playing Subterfuge, and they both bought L2 within a day of having it. Word of mouth does seem to be the simplest (and cheapest) option for the time. I feel that advertisements may fall on deaf ears, and could cost the devs more money than they make.

Most games with forums have an "Off-Topic" forum.

Sounds like an easy place for us as fans to "advertise" by recommendation, especially of games of similar genre.

Or is this against the rules against this in off-topic forums? (...do we care?)
