Strategy, feedback, or anything SUBTERFUGE-related

  • I relly love this game however as far as I can tell there is not to much official backstory. I am hoping to provide a bit of my interpetation on the univers of subterfuge. I will be posting here to avoid cluttering the main thread. I will focus more on backstory and major events than indidual characters because roadkhiel does that so well.

  • Well I definitely get a steampunk feeling about this game so my explination will be assuming that the world is steampunky. So this planet once had a "dry" period were the world was a normal earth like planet. However a Great War broke out after the assassination of the Austrian archduke. This was the war to end all wars. Fighting lasted for decades throwing both the axis and allied powers into a depression. In order to keep fighting both sides had to build massive factories to produce thier machines of war. The humble driller was made to be cheap and expendable. But the great powers needed more. They began to look twards the ice caps as a resource of land. The rush to build massive factories and reactors was on. However the massive ice caps of the planet could handle the movement of the big heavy machines of war. They began to melt. The elite families of the world had time to build underwater bunkers to survive the world wide flood that was sure to come. They selected thier most loyal professors and workers to survive in the new underwater world. When the flood came the day of the majestic Zeppelin and hot air balloon and now was the age of the submarine. To be continued soon...

  • Everyone important had been safely moved into the soon to be underwater outposts for thier saftey. People put their faith in thier monarch to protect them from the everlasting flood. Every day the water level rose a few feet higher until it finally ingulfed all the outposts. However the royal families had overlooked one thing. They would not have enough power to run all of thier outposts energy shields. They had a choice to save the lives of thier thousands of citizens or themselves. Obviously the Monarchs chose themselves but as one queen wrote down in her journal "our children shall know if the ends justified the means". Obviously you wouldn't want the world to be run by a bunch of undapper anarchists. But as big of a choice as it was all of the Monarchs saved themselves and thier closest outposts. Years went buy of being unable to communicate with the other royal families and this in the end polarized the Monarchs. They lost all relations with all of the neighbors which led to relations as cold and dark as the water that engulfed them. To be continued...

  • I wanted to post a link to a thread I posted a week or so ago about how neptunium doesn't really fit in the universe. Neptunium is not mined from the ground but is created when uranium is bombarded by radioactive particles. I will come up with a way to address why neptunium is so important in my next post and I hope to address points I make in this thread. viewtopic.php?f=5&t=1371

  • The days of steam and electricity were over. With nothing better to do scientists worked hard and discovered new power in the for of uranium. Uranium reactors were powerful. So powerful that they could not be safely kept on the same level as the ocean floor. The solition that was devised placed the reactors deep underground with a small outpost on top for the maintenance of the outpost. The world of subterfuge was full of spies so when the first royal family discovered the power of uranium the news spread to the other families quickly. Because of the excess in power the major powers could communicate and travel long distances. The powers could communicate again and soon they all would have subs that can travel long distances. Long enough to reach the long dormant outposts. The race was on to reclaim the outposts that laid dormant for decades. Soon the royal families discovered a unexpected benefit of the underground reactors. They had been spilling radioactive particles into the rock around them creating an element that before was thought to be impossible. Neptunium. After years of underground reactors there was a lot of neptunium in the crust of the planet. Scientists soon found that neptunium bombarded with radioactive particles produced another new element. Plutonium. To be continued...

  • With the power of the massive amount of plutonium the kingdoms had at thier disposal they could do theoretically anything. They had the power to reverse the fate of humanity. But what was the best way to do that. Scientists debated until eventualy a group of scientists figured that they could survive on the moon. They are doing the same thing that they are doing now. They produce their own oxygen, food, and water. They only had to get there. However according to the scientists calculations it would take a lot of plutonium to power the rockets that would carry the entire population of the kingdom. They soon realized that there was not enough neptunium for all of the kingdoms to evacuate. Only the first to get the proper amount would have enough. The race for neptunium was on. Each kingdom wanted the neptunium very much. They would go to any level of backstabbing and subterfuge to get enough to save thier people. There were more drillers produced now then ever before. There could be no second place. For the good of the people. People would soon be able to be freed from thier watery prison. They would soon again take to the skies were they felt they belonged. The end (I think)
