"rubber banding"

  • While I like the idea of "divine empress" I too agree that one outpost lost is game over may be a bit much. Maybe make the "divine empress" unable to move? I think that could make some really interesting dynamics.

Also, what about limiting the number of specialists from the get-go? If everyone can only have five specialists and #1 is so far ahead, chances are their specialists are quite spread out or all on one side of their territory, limiting their usefulness. Meanwhile a smaller faction with all five specialists within 12 hours of your outposts can strike faster.

  • Limiting the number of specialists would be tough. The game can last a few days or more than 2 weeks. You also have multiple specialist hires like assassins and saboteurs.

I like the idea of having the divine empress not move much more than the "losing an outpost means you lose" idea.

  • I am in the middle of my very first game - what fun! I am consumed with the game already.

We had someone resign immediately which gave one player a huge advantage. The "rubber banding" was provided naturally through player interaction. Sure the person that got the initial big advantage is still leading, but the lead has dwindled and others banded together to counter him/her. I think they have had their hands full the whole game!

I don't think the game needs to artificially influence players abilities as has been described, but I think it would be great if there was a way to either remove or redistribute resources of players that prematurely resign. How you define "prematurely resign" I don't know - resign before they engage in combat, before they develop X number of drillers, before 24hours - something. And obviously redistributing or removing the resources is equally difficult to define and implement.

One thing I am wondering is what stops someone from joining every game with 2 accounts and funneling resources to the other, resigning and taking over the second accounts resources, or just playing as two accounts?

Great game, can't wait to see how this plays out! They all better keep an eye out for the underdog!

  • I don't believe an artificial assist is a good thing. From my experience, many players miss out on diplomatic opportunities. The last place player should be using the chat screens more than anyone and scrambling to build an alliance. I know I'm blind to chat I'm not a part of but I don't believe players give enough to diplomacy.

  • I agree completely. You can usually advance through diplomacy.

Maybe just shoot the players in last place little tips on how to get ahead? I'm not sure how to get the word out any more then has already been emphasized.
