I've seen TONS of these been given out. I've even seen some L1 players been given/have given medals to other players. I'm curious if we have an actual count on how many total medals have been given and if this is boosting revenue (I mean, based on the number of medals I've seen other players in my games have, this has got to be making some decent revenue for future development!)

We don't have such information. You could ask the devs if they write a blog post about it some time, for evaluation.

Also note that purchasing medals is still iOS only for now, so hopefully it'll get another boost when it comes to Android!
