Decreasing player base

Anyone else notice a rapid drop off in player base? I feel like a week or two there were over 7000 players and now there's only about 6200...a significant drop.

I've noticed that too. I think we were even as high as 9000 players a month or two ago. Looking at when people joined, it seems as though there was a major influx around October 15. A lot of the non-serious players left since then, leaving only the good people I guess.

Release day ;)

For who wants to check some player stats of the first three weeks, check:
http://blog.subterfuge-game.com/post/13 ... the-future

I recall almost 10.000 players in over 2.000 games, now we're below 6.200 players in just above 1.000 active games.

It's sad but realistic, lower profile games sometimes don't have enough people online to play (especially if it's a 1v1 and it's looking for an opponent while you wait), Subterfuge won't have this problem anytime soon, but the drop in player numbers is very noticeable indeed.

Im not surprised to see the free player number dropping. What worries me is the recent drop in active L2s that had previously been much more stable.

How can we help the devs and grow the player base? I have been on other games I play and encouraging others to join but I must admit, the $10 price tag is an obstacle...

Do we know what the demographic is that tends to play this game? If we are able to find this out, perhaps it would help to brainstorm some ideas.

I've noticed the drop off as well so I've been promoting this game in my gaming circles with a few trying it at the L1 level.

I would target mobile audiences in genres like digital "board games", and "city builder war games"(like clash of clans, game of war, etc.)

Or just on big gaming community sites like Giant Bomb, Penny Arcade, etc.

If anyone already has a username with some posts to the name already, it would probably help legitimize a thread on their forums.

There may have been many like me who just didn't play during the Christmas / New Year break. Hopefully the numbers will pick up again

Yeah that's a good addition. I also almost took a break after TopKilla's tournament, and knew that there would be a chance I'd never return.

Figured out taking a break was very hard, and I joined a new game quickly after the tournament finale was over.

You don't need to pay it to play though, so it shouldn't be a huge obstacle. People can still try out the game for free at least.
