Can someone help me understand what happened here.

Hello boys and girls of all ages.

I was hoping someone could help me understand the sequence of events that go on to explain what happens as me and the opposing player are both perplexed. I'll lay out the 2 outposts, the subs, and the specialists involved.

Opposing Player (O/P) has the following:

Outpost: Factory
Driller Count: 77
Specialists: 2x Assassin, 1x Engineer, 1x Infiltrator, 1x General, 1x Pirate, 2 Saboteur
Shields: 20

I have the following:

Outpost: Factory
Driller Count: 2
Specialists: 1x Queen, 1x Minister of Energy, 1x Foreman, 1x Double Agent, 1x Security Chief
Shields: 50

O/P sends a force of 47 containing a General, an Infiltrator, and a Saboteur

I send a force of 0 with a Double Agent.

The game is telling me that they collide. Both subs are reduced to 0. Then they both carry on with their original paths. Therefore his 0 sub with 3 specialists thud against my shield of 50. Taking my Driller count of 2 away. I then capture the O/P specialists.

My Double Agent continues on his course to the O/P outpost. He hits the outpost but my Double Agent just disappears. He isn't captured. He doesn't join the O/P. He just disappears.

The combat preview states the following:

Myself

0 Drillers
Double Agent

O/P

47 Drillers
General
Infiltrator
Saboteur

O/P Saboteur damages my Sub
My Double Agent defects and ends the combat.

Power (For both sides):
0
= 0 Total

My question is what happens for the Double Agent to no longer defect, my sub to not return from the Saboteur, and me not gain the O/P's specialists but, instead, capture them?

Thank you for your help.

It might be easier to help if you could post a couple of screenshots.

The Double Agent disappears because he was killed by O/P Outpost's assassin, meaning he still belonged to you.
Double Agent defecting effect only triggers during sub to sub combat, not sub to outpost.
The confounding factor here is why the Double Agent only triggered his driller killing ability, but did not convert O/P's specialists.

Here's what I believe happened
Sub 1 is your sub of DA
Sub 2 is your opponent's sub of 3 specialists, notably a saboteur

Sub 1 heading away from you, sub 2 heading towards you

The two subs collide and saboteur's effect occurs before DA's, thus the saboteur's effect occurs

Now sub 1 becomes your opponent's sub but also reversed course due to saboteur
Sub 2 becomes your sub of 3 specialists, notably a saboteur

So now sub 1 is your opponent's sub with a DA, heading towards you
And now sub 2 is your sub, 3 specialists including saboteur, heading towards you

Apparently they collide again due to the course change

After this collision sub 1 gets affected by the saboteur again, reversing course to move away from you again
The DA on sub 1 reverts to your side
sub 2 continues on its journey towards you again, but the DA has caused the specialists to switch sides again, so now they're your opponent's specialists again

As for the disappearing DA at the end of his journey, he is killed by an assassin I guess

Looks like this is the best answer. The bolded part shows that they collide again because of the General's speed boost, catching up to the DA but too fast to notice.
Also 6PAYH, you beat JD and I to the answer by mere minutes!

Hello Boy or Girl of any age.
So I drew this all out on paper to better understand the situation and here is my assumption on how things happened.

This is the only way it makes sense to me? Lets assume Red(you) outpost is in the South and Blue(oponent) is in the North

So subs collide
Red Going North 0 Drillers Double Agent Red

Blue Going South 47 Drillers General, Sabotuer, Infiltrator (Gen,Sab,Infil) .5 Speed boost

Sab procs- 0 Drillers and DA now are set to go South
DA procs- Drillers destroyed- DA turns Blue, Gen,Sab,Infil turn Red
_____________________

Red going South Gen,Sab,Infil catch up to Blue going south DA due to .5 Speed boost
Subs collide

Sab procs- 0 drillers and DA are now set to go North
DA procs- DA turns Red, Gen,Sab,Infil, turn Blue (original colors now)

_____________________
DA runs into Assassin and gets shanked- Lucky he didn't send a driller to convert it to his side.
Gen, Sab, and Infil don't have enough manpower to burn through that shield. General takes out 2 drillers out of spite.

So Yeah thats it. I think.
Hope it is clear to ya.

Also post this in Questions next time plox

This is the second post I've seen about weird double agent/saboteur action.

Kind of a weird counter that I never thought of. I might just have to add it to the wiki :D

Hello everyone.

Thank you for your many responses. I've let the other player know why it happened.

Y'all are stars.

Using this method, when a sub is sent at you with anything, you can take control of all enemy specialists and kill all enemy drillers using only 1 driller (the driller that converts your DA back onto your side.) I discovered this in one of my first games :P at that time I posted it in the questions topic.
THerefore, NEVER send an attack with a sabotuer when your opponent can get/has a DA
