Musings on Subterfuge Page 1

Strategy, feedback, or anything SUBTERFUGE-related

  • I'm new to Subterfuge. I joined on December 27th. I've completed 5 games, was eliminated in 60% of them, and am currently playing in 5 more.
The first, and most important, thing I have to say is that Subterfuge is a fantastic game. I've already given it a 5-star review. I used to play Clash of Clans a lot, thinking that the strategy involved with that was sufficient to keep me entertained (and it did - I'm level 113), however Subterfuge has blown CoC out of the water (no pun intended). I have barely been back to it, and when I do go back, it seems mundane and insipid.
Subterfuge is tricky, fun, infuriating, entertaining, devastating, funny and... many many other adjectives, most of which will contradict each other while still being 100% accurate.

While playing the game I've been making notes on things I thought could improve the game and/or experience.
These notes are my personal opinions. I'm not claiming they're correct or better. I'm simply spilling my thoughts.
All the images I add here were manipulated by me to help me describe the notes I've made.
The notes are in no order, but I do consider some to be much more useful than others.

    1) When chatting to my allies, I often find myself panning and zooming around the map to find the name of an outpost or person. I think it'd be really useful if the chat window had short-cuts to these items. You can see in the mockup below that I've added these items. I thought the user could tap the player name once to show the outposts help by that player; Tap the player name again to insert it, or tap the outpost to insert that. This display method does come with some screen-estate problems. The players could have really long names, and/or the selected player could have lots of outposts. Hopefully some kind of scrolling or layering could solve this issue.

    2) I often find myself setting up future launches only to find I've messed them up (or things have changed). This means having to scrub, quite carefully, through time to the exact point the sub was due to depart. I thought it'd be good to use a similar interface to the 'Jump to Arrival' functionality. The image below shows a new user interface that could pop up after you've tapped 'Jump to Arrival'. Similarly, once you've tapped 'Jump to Departure', the 'Arrival' interface would eb shown again. This would allow a user to jump to and from arrival and departure, or cancel the launch, without having to find the time on the dial.

    3) As I'm new to the game, I found it a little difficult deciphering the icons on the game screen. As I play multiple games at once I often forget which game I'm in and what the 'setup' is. I thought it'd be good to display the game setup information in the Public Chat window.

I'm afraid I'm limited to three image uploads, so my musings will continue on a second page.

  • I love #2. #1 has been suggested in the past, but still agree it would be nice.

There are other updates I would like to see first as they are more critical, but would indeed like to see these things somewhere on their list.
