Question regarding rank points and resigning

I'm in a situation right now and need some clarification.

Situation: I'm currently in two ranked games. A 10-player domination game that will soon end and I will take first place. I am projected to gain 57 rank points. In my second game (10-player mining), I am being immediately ganged up on and might place last. I would be projected to lose 86 points.

Question:
If I am correct, the amount of rank points you gain or lose are dependent on the average rank of your opponents. Will my projected rank point gain or loss change mid-game if I gain or lose rank from another game?

Options:
1. Continue as it's going. Win 57 points from game 1. Rank will rise. Lose 86 PLUS MORE SINCE RANK INCREASED from game 2.
2. Resign game 2 before game 1 ends. Lose 86 points. Win game 1 and win 57 PLUS MORE SINCE RANK DECREASED

Thoughts? Is my thinking correct?

Your rank will not change until the game is over
So resigning from your second game will not affect your game that is about to end
So I would recommend not resigning, turtle up, hope they find other prospects, possibly make a comeback

Yeah, you should stick to playing in both games. Even if you resign the rank change wont take effect until someone wins and that game ends. This is because if that game takes another 6 days to finish you could potentially finish another 5 games before that which would then affect the ranking points (positive or negative) on the game ending in 6 days. It's crazy how much the points change as you finish games, that's why I tend to not even estimate anymore, if you are playing more than 3 ranked games at a time it isn't really worth it, it is enough to make you go crazy :)

Also, and I may be completely wrong here, but I don't think that the order should actually matter that much here. The net gain/loss would be the same or very close. Or maybe I'm completely wrong about how the system works.

I'm not sure the math for calculating ranked rating has been accurately determined. But your rating should not change across games unless another player in a game that you are playing significantly increases their rating before the game is over.

I would like to know if there is a mathematical formula to calculate rating though

How to calculate your rating was alluded to here, viewtopic.php?f=5&t=275, I brute forced the last variable.

The short version goes like this:

Your ranking is calculated as if you played a 1v1 game against each person playing. (If you come in first in an eight player game, you essentially won seven games. If you come in second, you lost one and won six games, etc.)

The formula is:
R(1) = Your ranking
R(2) = Opponent's ranking
D = 400 (Brute force variable)
S(x) = 1 (win) or 0 (lose)
K = 20

New ranking = R(1) + K[S(x)-[1/(1+10^(((R(2)-R(1))/D))]

As an example from my most recent non anonymous game, 1st place was rated 1576, 2nd place was rated 1443. If you solve the above equation, 1st gained 6.35 and 2nd lost 6.35. However, you've got to repeat for each of the 56 (total) 1v1 games that finished.

You should also know that the points gained equals the points lost for each game, but due to rounding, may be off one.

We discussed EXTENSIVELY how the rating is calculated in this thread: http://forums.subterfuge-game.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=1208
(skip to the second half to the end)

Short version is yes, its basically playing 1v1s against each person in the game.

Is this really still the ELO formula used by the game? I created a quick spreadsheet (to find out how ratings would change depending on how the match I'm playing in currently shakes out), and while it works with some slight variance from rounding for the example game given in the wiki at http://subterfuge.wikia.com/wiki/Player_Info, it's completely off for the current 10-player match I'm in according to the "Your Rating" display on the leaderboard.

I think it would be more clear if you could pencil that out on a sheet or something, take a pic from your cellphone, email said picture to yourself, and upload the picture to https://vgy.me or https://pomf.cat and embed that picture here

Ratings are overrated.
