My first thoughts on seeing this game were that it would play a bit like "Diplomacy" the game. A lot more complex at unit level, but really about how you work and share with other people.
Based on a sample of one game, still in progress as I type, I feel that my initial thought was born out. Yes, I made a lot of noob mistakes, but I've really enjoyed this first experience, and will be back for more.
My answer to your question, based on the extensive experience of one round - diplomat.
(Thinking of buying L2, which is most unusual for me)

I'm extremely aggressive. Course, I do diplomacy pretty well, but for the most part I let my drillers do the talking
And welcome painter, happy you joined us! Subterfuge is an amazing game, L2 is well worth it (at least, it was for me). Hope you have fun in your next games!

Most of the time i try to play diplomaticlly. If i can't convnce people to have peace i use my mediocre tactics to win.

Gotta master both, trying to rely too heavily on one while neglecting the other is asking for trouble. I suppose if I were to choose which I am better at, probably war.
