1) Start a new game
2) Don't socialize and just chill
3) Get attacked by 1 neighbor. 1 neighbor attack isn't so bad!
4) Get attacked by 2 neighbors. I can maybe manage it and slow them down.
5) Get attacked by all neighbors. Okay I'm so screwed.
6) Think of weird ways to barely survive and hope.
8) Think I should really socialize and try to do the alliance stuff
9) Repeat step 1 through 8.

1) make too many alliances
2) realize you can't actually attack anyone without breaking a truce
3) attack them anyway
4) when they get mad, give up attacking them
5) repeat 3-4
6) end game in 4th place

1) Complain about my starting position to my imaginary friend, Ursarkar E. Creed the Tactical Genius™
2) Entice all of my neighbors individually into this hot new diplomatic opt-in option known as the Non-Aggression Pact, or N.A.P.
3) Let each of my allies individually know that I will be grouping most of my units with my queen, and let them know that the next person to confuse me for easy pickings gets dunked on.
4) Get bored, decide to start conversations with further-away people I don't have any type of peace deal with, offer them a little bit of information about my allies' rear flanks, hear their sob stories about the war front. They invite me to backstab the man, since he's losing a 2v1 badly. I decline because I don't like backstabbing.
5) Look on the intel report, find the worst performing guy on the list, and offer to buy specialists from him. Maybe I'll donate some extra drillers on my own to get on his good side so he'll kingmake me after he dies.
6) The man turns out to be a poor investment; he's performing poorly not as a matter of luck, but sheer tactical incompetence. I'm out several hundred drillers and a high-powered specialist, and only have some pissed off men to the south to show for it.
7) Two of my neighbors start fighting, and both request my aid. I aid the guy who's getting his rear flank raped by the neighbor on my other side, who has grown to cancerous proportions.
7a) I buy and trade specialists with everyone who needs some quick drillers, draining my backup plan drillers but also netting me some pretty cool combos in return.
8) The cancerous neighbor from 7 launches 200 drillers at me without prior notice while my trade drillers are still in transit.
9) The angry factions on my south (always the south) decide to start launching at me at this point.
10) If I have trustworthy allies, I lose my base and turtle in with them. Otherwise, bunker in and hold the line. This isn't my first time on the ass end of a 3v1, and it sure as hell won't be the last.
11) End the game anywhere from 1st place to 6th

6b) Wait several days being a turtle at a generator. Allow enemies to throw all their drillers at my queen. Watch as their drillers start to get close. Get up to 4 hires before the last sub arrives. First hire assassin, second hire thief, third hire pirate, fourth hire navigator. See step 3 queen without any defenses possibly susceptible to a queen hunt. Reorder the attacks to allow more drillers to be absorbed by the shield. Game crashes can't log in. Wonder if that queen hunt would of been possible. Oh well. Not like I would of won.

1) post nonsense silly shit in the public chat
2) ask a neighbor for peace and get a shady response. Get attacked by that neighbor and his cronies.
3) hire 10 sentries and 10 generals. Successfully defend attacks and eliminate that player
5) record a salty recap video and call people punny and rude names.
6) repeat.

Vicious cycle of Subterfuge burnout:
1) play one or two successful games
2)win top 3 in a ranked game
3)start making and joining too many games
4)get frustrated that you start losing and people start backstabbing you
5)lose a few games
6)get angry, quit Subterfuge
7)wait a month
8)notice Subterfuge is still on your app list, or stumble upon your forums bookmark
9)Repeat

I can't log in either, neither can Maaike, game crashes when we try to load that game. I wonder if it is crashing for everybody else, too? Bummer.
On topic: those 4 hires had me really worried! I was mostly worried you'd get Saboteurs or a Sentry -> War Hero.
You really should socialize! Although, even then, I've found myself on the receiving end of 4v1 attacks. It happens.

I was hoping for a saboteur since I had a pirate
Tits Mcfinkle Bottom is a cool cat or an inspector because I had 40 shields and would of been 1 hire.
I think I don't socialize as much as I should because it matches my play style more of just messing around with specialist. I prefer a more chaotic game. I find making alliances especially large ones feels like it is just stomping on whoever is not in that alliance for several days and then preserving the status quo for the remainder of the game.
